One can dream, right?

Samsung has announced a new type of fast-charging long-range (600+ miles / 1000km) solid state battery that should go into production in 2027 and will first be featured on high-end vehicles. PCMag link.

Rivian: Please consider a path towards those batteries in the years to come.
These announcements are worthless without details. Rivian could make a 600+ mile range vehicle now. Just double the battery size and boom done. You probably won’t want to buy that vehicle though. It’ll have worse performance due to the added weight. It’ll cost 40% more (rough estimate don’t get hung up on it). And Rivian definitely doesn’t want make vehicle because it’ll be a very low volume seller.

Battery energy density is going up slightly with minor tweaks. But there is no major COST EFFECTIVE game changing battery on the near horizon. Solid state has been talked about for a decade or more and no one has brought a reasonable cost cell to market yet.

I repeat myself, but it's really nagging on me. Planning the next trip in our Skoda Yeti (from Switzerland to Portugal, 2 weeks +) and what I really would like in my next car are
Fold-Flat Front Seats, please!

We are happy R1S owners but as empty nesters with a dog, the car is a bit overkill (size) for us and never use the 3rd row. We are probably ourliers but would love a roadtrip focused premium version of R2.

- much improved efficiency over R1
- much improved DC charging curve
- 400 + mile range
- Similar comfort seats (massage would be great)
- Quiet @ speed
- AWD

Please allow third party auto mechanics to become certified to work on Rivian R2s. Or better yet all Rivians. I live 400+ miles from the nearest Rivian service center. It worries me being so far from a service center. Pluss this would be more affordable and Rivian should know the people who are interested in the R2 or R3 are looking to save money. This would also help overcome Rivians service shortcomings.
