I like installing as high as possible for the greatest reach.
Depends...for radar, yes, high as possible. If you have a lot of laser around and care, then lower is better since they tend to use the license plate and headlights as a target and the beam is pretty narrow. Then again, for laser it's pretty much a ticket detector if you're deserving in areas where laser shifters aren't legal.

LOL, yup. I don't speed enough to care in the truck, but I do have a jammer on the motorcycle. Honestly I wouldn't even buy a detector for myself, but the wife has a lead foot and she had this in the closet from her last car.

I was planning on installing my laser shifters this week. Did not realize there is no fuse box as per the above post? Maybe I’ll tap into the cigarette lighter. Stay tuned.
Fuse box is under the driver side of the dash near the footwell

Thanks @SwampNut for the idea. Little to no vibration at all. All in for about $15-20 compared to blendmounts $170 +shipping

By the way, Rivian quoted that trim cover around $26. So nothing really lost if someone messes up and needs a new trim piece.

1/4” threads and drill bit, FYI

the socket set (metal threaded part)… idk what to call it wasn’t long enough to thread into the nylon part of the nut. I’m sure loctite will work too.

edit
Amazon link and Home Depot link for the locking bolt

Great followup! You should post the link to that threaded 1/4-20 mount, I should have thought of something like that. Would have been easier than my method.

I edited my original post with Amazon and Home Depot links

i bought 6 different kinds to try out. The one I went with was the best fitting. Somehow I guess different go pros have different thicknesses?? They didn’t fit each other.

this is a tripod mount that’s circular and has a rubber pad on it. I didn’t use vhb tape. There’s a slight gap around the edge becuase the trim piece isn’t completely flat.

The metal threaded part isn’t long enough but it’s threaded and secured imo.

edit
I think mine is adjustable horizontally as well. I haven’t tried it but the collar locking can be unscrewed and I should be able to adjust to my liking without needing to take apart the trim piece and adjusting from the inside.

Chinese inches, LOL! I have that experience. I have multiple cameras and a TON of adapters, and it's shocking how many are not right.

I saw that tripod adapter and realized it would have been better. I even own some.

Thankful for Amazon and their return policy.

I didn’t like the sprocket piece sticking out that joins the radar mount and the mount together. This is lower profile width wise, but I think yours is tighter to the trim piece and mirror. the concept is definitely similar

I can't get the cover off. Pretty sure I'm seeing the later of clear plastic underneath flexing off the windshield. Is this normal or am I about to tear the entire camera system off?

This is normal, and you need body panel tools. See my video in this thread.

I did the same. It twists on. Start about a third of a turn from straight(line up the three tabs) push hard against the windshield and turn. It took me a few tries but I got it back on.
Just dropping in almost two years later to say this post saved me a ton of frustration - thanks!

How is your adhesive mount holding up to summer heat?

Mine doesn't depend on the adhesive at all. It's got a mechanical fastener and the VHB tape is purely a buffer and to keep it from rotating. It's squished in place by the mechanical fastener so it can't fail. However, this is hilarious...the METAL GoPro mount itself will sag when it gets super hot. I assume that the metals expand at different rates. I will tighten it more one day.
