My wife’s Hyundai ioniq 5 twist shifter agrees with OP also but I find rivian more intuitive while she finds Hyundai more intuitive. So it works out. Haha.BMW i3 agrees with the OP... you push the top of the lever forward to go forward and pull it back to go back. Of course this is not an UP/DOWN type device as found in the Rivian or Tesla's.

That is not my problem, mine is I get into my Acura RDX and turn the wipers on to back out of the garage. Then when parking do the same and punch the gas and charging fwd thinking I'm going to back up because my blinkers are on, but instead I go fwd.Just picked up my R1T on Tuesday. Lovin' it.
However, I can't seem to get my head wrapped around Drive being DOWN and Reverse being UP. That's so un-intuitive to me! I parallel parked it last night for the 1st time and came 1/2" away (not exaggerating) from smashing into the BMW behind me because, as you always are, I was "rushed" trying to get in the spot and not hold up traffic. I instinctively pushed up to go forward and....
Yes, I get why they did it. It's the same order as automatics have been for years. From the top P R N D manuals. But having not had a stalk on the tree for gears in decades, it doesn't translate for me. I also know if they would have done it "my way", some other whiner would come on here and complain about the opposite.
Not really complaining actually. Just remarking that it's another thing I need to adapt to. And there are already so many on this technological marvel....
So far a minority of one. I got my first truck at age 72 (Model Y) and this was immediately intuitive, and I've never hit the park button, in fact don't remember using it.You push it down "towards you" to go forward and up "away from you" to go in reverse. The way it is makes sense to me. I think you're going to be in the minority here on this one.
I’m with on that one!I get your logic, but this is pretty standard for stalk shifters. I'm just happy they didn't put it on the touch screen.

My only gripe about parking is it should creep in reverse. That's one upside to an ICE car.
I don’t know what the earlier EVs like the EV1, RAV4 electric and Nissan Leaf did for shifting, but when Tesla introduced the Model S, Daimler-Benz was a shareholder and they had some technology/parts sharing agreements. The stalks and switches in the Model S were from the Mercedes parts bin, and Tesla supplied the drive trains for the B class EV. Later Rivian and others used the same pattern as Tesla - which of course has now removed the stalks, another reason I switched from Model X to R1S rather than buy a new X.Yes, I think that's why whomever started EV shifting went this direction. To mimic an automatic where it goes R-N-D top to bottom.
Indeed…adaptJust picked up my R1T on Tuesday. Lovin' it.

Porsche Taycan EV is the same: A lever where Down=drive and Up=Reverse. At least it'll be the same for both cars when our R1S arrives.Just picked up my R1T on Tuesday. Lovin' it.

Tesla kind of established the standard so I don't think it's going to change.Just picked up my R1T on Tuesday. Lovin' it.
