There's likely 0% chance that they don't release both apps simultaneously. There's too much dominance amongst their combined marketshare, and they're too evenly matched to make one the preferred choice. Pretty much every major application release these days goes out for both simultaneously.

Given the techy nature of Rivian and the focus on software in terms of EVs in general, I'm really hoping there is full feature parity between the apps. It would be a big miss on their part to not ensure everyone has the same access regardless of your ecosystem.

iOS currently has about 57% of the total U.S. market. Also, the share of iPhone users increases as you increase household income. Considering these are luxury vehicles, I would expect iOS to be more popular than Android.
I assume they will get equal treatment and full functional parity. In terms of market share, it looks very different when you view it globally rather than just the U.S.

I'm in the android camp.

As a software engineer, I refuse to be locked into apple's walled garden.

If they don't have an Android app I will offer to help write one lol. Apps are not rocket science.

For the feature parity, iOS is much easier to test with since apple controls everything, it ensures that your app will work.

Android is much harder to ensure compatibility since there are so many hardware platforms that run it.

One good example is the blood sugar monitoring devices, they only support a handful of android phones since their app can't afford to malfunction.

A car app is much different however. Everything critical should be handled server side.

There's no sense in either/or in 2021. All we can safely write off is Blackberry.

Based on their partnership with Amazon perhaps they will skip both the Apple app store and the Google app store. It will be an Amazon App store exclusive. ;)

Oh yes! They are quite a bit still around. BlackBerry owns QNX. QNX is _the premier_ software platform (think like MS Windows or MacOS) used in vehicles, particularly in the functional safety domain.
