GM Finally announced pricing in Canada for the Silverado RST with 700km range (442 miles). $118,000 canadian.

The R1T Dual motor max pack in Canada with 411 miles (659km) range is $134,500!

Rivian really needs to get their pricing down. A Dual motor base model with standard battery is $110k. That gets you a slower, less capable with MUCH less range (300 miles) for nearly the same price....

I'm not sure exactly how the pricing works out the in the US but seems that GM and Ford and significantly reducing pricing and Rivian keeps going up and up.

Does the RST have adaptive damping and adjustable air suspension?

The RST is compelling, but it's like comparing a Toyota Tacoma to a Silverado 1500. Different vehicle types, different buyers.

Cheaper Rivian's are fantastic, but Rivian isn't in a position to drop pricing on the T and S because they are high content vehicles from a startup. Will pricing come down? probably, but not yet. The point of the plant shutdown is to reduce cost of building which could be passed on to consumers, or as a way for Rivian to boost their profit margin for the Georgia MFG plant build out.

Silverado is the better choice for people who pull trailers, but the position of the charging port sucks for today's reality of fast charging while towing. I would rather stop 50% more than have to drop the trailer once on a trip. Even on trips where I have a bike rack on the hitch will be a big problem for stopping at Tesla stations, etc.

Yes it does have air suspension and adaptive damping... the RST is loaded. Hands free driving, air suspension, multi-tailgate, bigger frunk, 10ft-10inch bed with mid gate folded. 350kw charging!

I'm not a GM fan boy, I love my R1T but seems to me GM is hitting all the right specs and pricing here. Originally it was to be over $140k for this model so I wrote it off as way too much but if I have to replace the T it's a no brainer ... if they ever actually deliver them lol.

The Evalanche is the only thing on the horizon that might replace my R1T, but it would be a mainstream version not $100k+ RST. I'm biased in that I bought the original Avalanche new in 2002, kept it for twelve years, and until the Rivian often lamented I ever got rid of it. The versatility is perfect for my use.

The EV Silverado is an interesting vehicle but is severely limited for trailer towing. Our 25' Airstream travel trailer has a tongue weight of 950#. The payload of the EV Silverado is a mere 1300#. That means that after SuEllyn and I get in the truck, we could handle only about 100# of additional cargo in the truck. Our R1T would be more capable with its 1711# payload.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if it was running the same/similar setup as the Hummer EV.

To @Dark-Fx point, the charge port is in a poor location for one of it's key perks, distance towing.

Personally, I would concede the RST is the better truck. But I prefer the T's size and breadth of capability. I wish they would have dumped the 180kWh pack in it tho.

Would definitely be nice to be able to confidently unplug at 80% or less every time when we are towing, would love to have the extra flexibility from a larger pack. Though we have yet to intentionally wait longer than required to finish other activities.

Only fleet customers so far. WT trim.
Yark Chevy has 3 3WTs sitting on their lot right now, saw them when we drove by on our trip. If a fleet customer orders them but decides against purchasing once they arrive, they can sell to anyone.

Of course the WT are missing the midgate, which is another advantage you're giving up in addition to battery size for the 3WT.

FWIW US Pricing comparison

Silverado RST $96395 with 440 miles of range
Modestly equipped max pack prices about the same I guess, the bigger battery is very appealing though if you can deal with it's size.

I'm personally a fan of the GMC Sierra version if that price out about the same we shall see but anxious to see what Rivian does for 2025.

I was really anti the Silverado when I first saw it released - thought it was really ugly.

But I do like the Sierra Denali EV design, and with a mid-gate (useful for some, gimmicky for others), high charging speeds, long range capability, and Super Cruise (don't knock it, I've used it and it's awesome on the highway) I'm starting to come around to it.

InsideEVs got 460 miles of range out of the Silverado, whereas Rivians always fall well short of their range estimates. This article noted an elevation drop while driving, but even when I've been going down in overall elevation in the R1S over long distances (and driving normally) the R1S still falls below the quoted range estimates. Luckily I don't give a rip about range, we have other cars for long distance driving... but this will matter to a lot of folks.

This is why competition is good for the consumer, though. Rivian will find ways to respond. I think they're here for the long haul despite what all the expert traders on the forum have to say about the stock price.

The Silverado looks better in person and it is loaded, and already dropping in price. I'm No. 1 on the list here and have now received two phone calls from the Owner, with the second stating is is now available for $97K. They may very well get the RST into the 80's in a few months and at that point, it is very tempting.

One of the reasons I ordered the Rivian in-person at the LA Auto Show in Dec. of 2018, is because they stated 400mi range, and as we all know, that never happened until recent. Getting a real world 440 miles (someone got 458mi), is a HUGE deal to a lot of true truck owners.

If they get the RST into the $89K or less range, they will take off. YMMV
