Opal (our R1T) has developed a strange door lock issue. Her right rear door will not lock. The other three door handles fold but the right rear stays extended. On the phone app she shows as unlocked. Trying to lock from the phone and the key fob does not work. I did a hard reset to no avail. I also lubricated the the door lock mechanism.

We are currently on a road trip towing our Airstream travel trailer. Since Opal refuses to lock, we are having to remove our valuables from the truck each night.

Are there any suggestions from the membership as to other things we might try to correct this problem?

Even though the door handle doesn't fold in, can you still open that door while the rest of the vehicle is locked? It could just be that actuator, and since these door handles aren't connected to anything besides a button, if the vehicle is locked, then the door handle shouldn't open the door.

Ninja edit: I missed your mention of the app showing it unlocked. Can you lock the car when you're inside? Does the door handle fold in when you put it in drive?

With the errant door handle out. I can open the door from the outside. I can also open the other doors by pushing on the forward part of the handle like you can do in "car wash " mode. The handle remains out when the truck is put in drive. No. I cannot lock it from the inside.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Is the behavior any different if you lock from the center display?

My G1 did something similar once during a failed charging session, but a hard reset (left button + hazard) fixed it.

Opal remained unlocked all night. She was on a level 2 charger. This morning around 8AM I was sitting in the Airstream when I heard Opal do her locking hoot. I had not touched my phone or the key FOB. I went out to Opal and found that she was locked and all the door handles were in. As I approached, she opened normally. Encouraged by this development, I locked and opened her a number of times. She seemed to be operating normally.

We used her all day touring the area. She worked perfectly. We were in and out of her a number of times all day long.

Late this afternoon wen we arrived back at the campground, Lucy started a new trick. When I put her in Park, the mirrors folded and the doors locked. We were able to unlock the doors and get out.

I will run some more tests to night. I guess another hard reset is in order.

Did you stop at the gremlin farm on your travels? Maybe a few of them escaped and are now residing in you Rivian!

That's a distinct possibility. We will just move on tomorrow and see how it goes.

This sounds more worthy of an exorcism than a service visit.

Make sure you do your daily affirmations of your love for Rivian in order to keep Opal in good spirits for the rest of your trip. :CWL:

I had an issue with one of my handles a year ago. Mine was the driver's side - and it was the reverse - it didn't unlock. I had to get in and out of the vehicle through the passenger door.

It's a rivian support ticket. Mobile support fixed it quickly by replacing the motor in the handle. Yours sounds something similar.

I'm assuming you've tried a hard-reboot, but if that didn't work - then contact Rivian.
