The new SiriusXM "App" in the R1 is a trap. Somehow, Rivian & SiriusXM managed to cough-up an app disguised as a Satellite Radio - complete with a horse-crap Radio ID, even though it's actually just a streaming app. As such, if you call SiriusXM and ask them about this, they want to charge you the full meal-deal $25/mo plus a $15 "radio activation fee" to cover the costs of what should only be a $9.99/mo streaming app-only plan.

If you attempt to login with a valid (existing) SXM streaming account, it just piles the 1 mo free Rivian trial onto your account, so that you get to pay $25+ for the plan after the trial expires. The streaming login is just used as a means to hook your brand new, horse-crap SiriusXM Rivian "Radio ID" to your account so they can harass you into paying 2x (or more) for the same exact thing you're already paying for with the streaming app only plan. W T F, Rivian. I expect this kind of crap from SiriusXM, but what clown at Rivian craped-out this dysfunctional atrocity? Or was this the price Rivian had to agree to pay to get a native app built for their platform?

Either way it sucks. but it's absolutely no different than a regular streaming plan. Back to Android Auto/Bluetooth.
I have to agree so far. I already pay for a "premium" subscription that allows me to stream in addition to the subscription on my other car. If it doesn't work where there is no cell service, common here in Colorado esp. in the mountains, I can't see pony'ing up the extra $$. Seems counter to Rivian's emphasis on taking their vehicles to the wide open spaces.

I find the "one month free" kinda horse poo too.

Everyone already is in a 1 month free trial (I think its actually 45 days, Thanksgiving, X-Mas, and New Years) as part of their Christmas Push. My Toyota has XM (the real kind), and it been free since 1 week before Thanksgiving.

So you are getting a free month, that you would have already gotten.

I gave up on Sirius as soon as I could realized how much better bluetooth streaming sounded in my car over their terrible bit rates.

The trial price and integration is for suckers .

In car and app is $25 a month. App only is $9.99.

Neither of them are satellite - which is actually good because Satellite sounds terrible and it's only upside is listening outside cell service.

The only function you are getting for $15 is an app that makes your streaming feel like it's native to the car. But it's exactly the same as the $9.99 streaming app.

You are paying $15 for the convenience of controlling it natively.

Something Apple, Spotify and Tidal do for free.

I logged in on my Rivian using my SiriusXm streaming account. I had 2 streams already. My favorites showed up. I see nothing in my Sirius XM account about a third streaming service being added. I did nothing with the free trial. I am going to get a charge for the Rivian besides the other 2 streams after the free trial? Thank You

That is what I was expecting to happen with my account, but my experience was completely different. None of my favorites were imported, and the free 30-day trial was "automatically" added to my account with a note telling me I'll be charged $25.10 at the end of the trial. So, the app knew who I was and automatically associated my R1S virtual "Radio ID" with my account - but the lack of import of my pre-existing favorites from the streaming app I already pay for leads me to believe they're attempting to monetize this more like a satellite radio instead of the streaming app it actually is.

I spoke to Sirius and they said it is the same login as the app on the phone. Any streaming login can be used on your account to login. The only issue I encountered logging in is that it asks for email and its not the master account email, it is the streaming email or ID. if you have a streaming ID that is not an email enter that and the password associated with it. When I called Sirius they said a lot of Rivian owners are calling in with this issue.

...and you're paying for the data plan on top of that, too... This is starting to get expensive for what should have just been another variant of the already existing SXM streaming app...

The trial is until it registers that your ID already has a subscription. The Sirius representative said I see you have no trials on any accounts, and she confirmed if I logged in with a streaming account that that is what the car is using not a separate sub. Sirius confirmed its a streaming app not radio with ID.

After half-a-dozen calls to the Philippines customer service center, I finally got one of them to transfer me to a Canadian rep who transferred me to the same department that handles Tesla's "virtual" accounts. They've opened an investigation to sort out why the $9/mo streaming-only option isn't being presented as an option in the plan selector, and they'll call me back tomorrow with a resolution. So at least I have an active case with someone in the "Corporate Solution Team". They also mentioned that there is inconsistent experiences with the login attempt using a pre-existing streaming account that they're trying to sort out. She also said that they're "having to learn on the fly on this one" and that they had no prior notice this was coming their way.

Sounds like where I work. Product Mgmt launches a new half ass janky feature to the public with no heads up to us that are customer facing.

I hope this does turn out to operate like streaming XM on a phone, laptop, etc and not an actual separate radio sub/cost. Should work like the Apple Music app (that at least was my assumption on how this would work). Login to same account and it's just another stream.

Yep!

I'm sure this is Sirius demands for the way it is implemented more than Rivian looking to charge more.

They haven't learned yet that they could actually make more money if they just charged $3 a month and people forgot to cancel it.

I am probably not going to signup as there are enough options in the R1S for me already.

That being said, if it is confirmed to be a true streaming app, I did get an email with a $1 a week special for 1 year. If anyone is planning on getting the streaming service, here is the link to the special.

Strange, When I called it was a North American person that answered and confirmed all the detail on my account. We will see how this plays out as I will not be paying another fee if I have to subscribe.

I logged into my Sirius account on my laptop and I still only see a streaming plan (I use the app on my phone) and the radio ID for my wife's Jeep. I don't see anything Rivian related.
