I’ve transferred funds equal to the cost of a small house to Rivian and I can’t even get a delivery date scheduled yet. No idea if it’ll be tomorrow or 2 months from now with zero transparency on what’s happening. My wife is LIVID and I’m in the doghouse. This process is not good.

I’m no fan of car dealerships and support the direct sales model, but I’d laugh myself right out the door if a car dealer had ever asked me to fork over the full cost of the car with absolutely nothing to show for it.

I agree the process doesn’t seem great, they have some optimization to do at a minimum. They shouldn’t be asking for any additional payment or insurance information until a delivery date is scheduled.

I haven’t heard from my guide yet on this topic but I will not be moving past step 4 until they are ready to schedule a delivery. I tried what @timesinks suggested and uploaded my current insurance information (all that is required in OR) and it was rejected.

Edit: I should add I was told 3-6 weeks by my guide 11 days ago and then my steps started. I don’t understand why they start asking for these things when the vehicles are still weeks from being ready.

Isn’t that how we buy most things online? Pay for it first and wait for delivery.

This isn’t an Amazon delivery. It’s an $80000 vehicle. getting the funds first seems unusual. When I purchased my tesla four years ago, I arranged for financing through Bank of America, but that loan only took affect once I signed for the vehicle. This part does raise some concern, hopefully it will be ironed out in more streamlined by the time I take possession of my R1S sometime next year

Which includes all sales tax and registration fees already paid? Their site is very unclear here.

I completely agree. Seems like some changes needed in the contract.

What is concerning about it? That's pretty typical, that's why you are charged at the shipment date for purchases.

I know my work has issues with that and usually negotiates taking ownership on receipt instead. But sometimes that can take weeks to work out with lawyers.

That language turns the process into a "mail order" to circumvent various states' idiotic franchise dealer protection laws.

What they wrote in the CYA agreement and what actually happened for us didn't exactly match.

But yes, they are asking for payment up front to support the pretense that these are interstate mail order transactions.

Just texted my guide. He said they have started the inspection, etc of my truck, so Step 8 should unlock shortly.

Odd, my Step 8 unlocked yesterday with a March 26th delivery and my guide said the truck is still in transit to the service center, feel like we are getting different info.

Feel like we are in the same boat, got delivery for the 26th in an email then my guide emailed shortly thereafter yesterday saying the vehicle should be in CA any day now.........you would think they wouldn't unlock the steps until the vehicle was in the local service center.
