I would like to know if it's possible to go to an 18" wheel size with the steel wheels!

Not if you want to keep the hydraulic brakes.

Yes but only if you change the front rotors and calipers for much smaller ones.

Reminds me when I used a grinder on my LR4 front calipers to clear some 18s.

I would consider it if it would just take a bit of cleanup. My config is with 21's, with the thouht of getting a set of tires/wheels for trail use.

how would that impact the performance of the vehicle? since its run so much by computers and algorithms, what impact do you think they'd have on range, drive modes, performance, safety?

which makes me think, does the vehicle know which wheels you bought when you purchased it and would it know if you switched them? is there a way to change that in the settings?
Here‘s a Web page that provides some thoughts:

“Increased rotating weight adversely affects acceleration, braking, fuel economy, and drivetrain longevity. When it comes to overall vehicle performance, it’s said that adding 10 pounds of wheel weight to a 4×4 is the equivalent of adding 100 pounds of cargo. So swapping on four new wheels that are 10 pounds heavier than stock is the equivalent of adding 400 pounds of cargo.”

“Replacing 17-inch and 18-inch steel wheels with aluminum versions in the same size can result in a weight savings of up to 10 pounds per wheel.”

16” steel wheels on my Land Rover, each rated for 2200kg, weigh ~36lbs per piece.

so a 20” wheel rated for 70% more load is going to be seriously heavy.

People have this idea of bashing a wheel back to round trailside with a rock or something… it’s just not gonna happen.

I want steelies so badly.

I love how they look on my 80 series. Super utilitarian.

I have a separate set of winter wheels/tires for all my vehicles I intend on driving during the winter for the last 15 years. Plan on the same for the Rivian, but so far there haven't been any economical options for rims that I've seen. I might just end up having the meats swapped out for this first winter if there doesn't end up being a good solution to the problem. It's just a bummer that we're not allowed to use studded tires in Michigan when the roads aren't completely covered, as the Nokian options are studded.
Hey @Dark-Fx, are you close enough to this place to get your R1T measured for steel wheels? One step closer to a winter wheel setup!

I offered, but it sounds like he didn't have it lined up with the company yet before asking. Still waiting to hear back from them.

Does anyone know the weights of the 20", 21", and 22" wheels? Would the 20’s be lightest because they’re smallest and forged?

Someone weighed the stock 20" tire combo and came up with 88lbs. TireRack lists the 20" AT tire at 48lbs, leaving the wheel to weigh 40lbs. Haven't seen any other weights posted for 21" or 22".

I would definitely rock some 20" steelies for daily driving purposes.

At a minimum, a steelie would make it easy for anyone to have a spare tire at a reasonable price.
