Please stop the bullying. Once and for all I did not mix up accelerator and brake. YOU DO NOT KNOW THE FACTS. If you can’t be supportive and/or informative please keep the comments to yourself. The parking lot where this occurred has proof the brake was pressed with skid marks and all yet the car continued forward. Moreover I have a police report which supports this experience. Finally, it doesn’t take three weeks to download and analyze data from a few min before the accident during the accident and a few min after. Certainly if I was to blame Rivian would have made that determination from the data easily by now.

It’s not bullying. It’s a simple statement of fact that the vast majority of these claimed instances of malfunction turn out to be user error. The truth is that you don’t know the facts either since you’re waiting on Rivian to analyze the data. A police report is simply a recording of statements and in no way proves anything about where your feet were at the time.

How many skid marks does the parking lot show? That’s a way to infer what may have been going on.

I like to share the issue that I had.
I was so surprised by the incident that I had a sudden acceleration during parking in a public parking lot.
I tried to fit my R1S into a lot. I did reverse and then tried to move forward a little bit.
Suddenly, my car accelerated and almost hit a car in right-front of mine.
Thank you, God! I was able to avoid crashing

It could be my operation mistake. However, I did not think so. I felt there was something sensitive in the acceleration.
I tied to figured out what was wroing.

I also researched the same or similar issue. Finally, I found the same cases at .

I called Rivian Service and reported the incident with the exact time and date (08:15AM Jan 30, 2023).
If you have any related issue, please share.
I hope that Rivian take in account the incident.

Thank you

Are you driving with one foot on brake and the other on accelerator. Was allowing a family member to test drive my R1t recently and learned he drives with both feet and that does not work with an EV. Unfortunately most incidents where a vehicle ICE or EV moves forward at a high rate of speed are operator error. Glad no one was injured.

Some may remember there was a brief time where, if you were stopped in drive ("Hold") and pressed down on the stalk, it would engage automatic cruise control and attempt to accelerate the car up to whatever it thought the current speed limit was. This was around the time of the Alan Ruck incident and is one theory for what happened to him. This is pretty scary to me because it's something I do kind of a lot, by force of habit I hit the stalk to shift into drive but I'm actually in Hold, not Park.

There was also a software bug in the opposite direction where pressing the shifter up to exit cruise control wouldn't cancel cruise control but would instead put the car in reverse (while going forward at highway speeds).

I'm just saying that a rare software bug would not surprise me all that much.

However, I thought the brake pedal is always causing mechanical friction braking and it seems surprising that the accelerator would overpower the brake. Pictures of the skid marks would be interesting.

like you were there? you have no idea how hard or soft he hit the accelerator. s/w and h/w can fail or have errors.

about a week ago for no reason, my regen failed to work/slow down my vehicle. i was at 50% state of charge, high regen, it was inexplicable. i used the friction brake to come to a stop. hasn't happened again since.
Having light regen is different than a car surging forward without touching the accelerator.
