Probably for the R2 series.
Definitely for the R2, but why not also for the R1?

You could have a better shock offering for the R1 to differentiate whilst still have air suspension as an option. personally, I don't reckon you'll see that many ticking that box (it won't be cheap)

Don't get me started on suspension! I've been banging on about this for ages.

Please Rivian, give us the option to have standard coils/shocks. Do a deal with Fox (or someone) and I can assure you there'll be less traffic coming into your SC's as a result. Probably more profitable per vehicle too.
Yeah I agree. I have a love-hate relationship with the suspension, it’s capabilities are awesome but it‘s too complicated and unreliable in my experience. Also I think it basically makes this vehicle unaffordable to own out of warranty.

I'd be curious to take an informal poll on build dates and who is having suspension issues.

I blew out my DeWalt compressor tank recently and it left a sweet rust-colored puddle in the garage. I never thought about wet air and sticking it into my wheels and other things until I saw this. How can a system prevent it or blow itself out without manual intervention? Is that perhaps the sound we hear when it goes into park sometimes; compressor running slightly, air hissing out, and compressor running again?
There are a couple of ways to keep this from happening.

First is using a closed inert gas system. The dry gas is moved from a pressure tank to the suspension and back, so it is closed & clean. Rivian does not use this system.

The second way to address water in the system is to include a dryer/drainage system. I would hope Rivian would have included such a system, but anecdotal evidence would suggest that maybe not.

Wow, sorry to hear you’ve been having so much trouble. I was wondering if Rivian would warranty the air suspension with the additional weight of the camper since I thought they specifically stated (not 100% sure) that they don’t recommend bed mounted campers. Glad to see they are covering it.

I love my R1T so much that I convinced a friend to get a R1S for his family. The air suspension failed in the first week and it spent a month in service center. Felt terrible.

They say in the manual no 'slide in campers' which isn't what I have. Also I am not exceeding the GVWR so they can't really void my warranty. What I have isn't much different than a bed height rack with an RTT or a truck cap with an RTT. On the other hand if the camper itself resulted in the damage they wouldn't cover it, just like any other accessory. I would also add the first round of suspension repairs were pre-camper.

They have asked that I remove all that stuff before I bring it in for service which is a PIA but I understand that.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks for clarifying. So a top mount camper like a GoFastCamper or similar is ok.

Im having suspension issues from day 1. The complexity and the high cost of the suspension system it will bite back rivian in the future for sure.
After the warranty ends, this vehicle will be impossible to maintain and afford.

Running into suspension issues too just from driving in the city. We had a trip with some offroading planned this weekend, but had to scrap those plans. To be honest, I'm a bit worried about taking my R1S on "adventures" given the reliability issues.

I was worried about the reliability of the air suspension way before I got mine. And now mine constantly lowers when it’s just sitting for no reason. Has ever since I drove it home. It also seems to randomly raise and lower when I’m driving, even though auto is turned off. Rivian has two more tries to get it solved before they are getting my lemon back. What makes it even worse, is the ride quality isn’t even that good. I can’t stand most of the drive modes. Way too bouncey

The differing opinions on ride quality makes me think something changes in the trucks. Mine is very stiff....in all modes. Almost no "bouncy" even over railroad tracks. And I live in frost heaved and road destroyed Wisconsin. I find impact harshness a bit more intense than I feel it should be, because of the stiffness.

... while I would describe the ride as soft and spongy, especially for a truck. Do the different trucks have different ride personalities? Maybe. Probably more likely that all of our butts are calibrated differently....

11/30 Update

Dropped off at PDX service on Tuesday morning. Today after reviewing event logs they have confirmed that a blockage on the compressor exhaust is what caused the fault. They are planning on replacing the compressor and the exhaust line. They are also trying to determine if there is a leak that caused the compressor blockage.

Glad they finally root-caused this for you.

Reminds me of my E46 BMW ZHP. 3 sets of lifters, 2 sets of cams … and it turned out to be a bunk VANOS.
