Tacoma Power Up Tailgate

Looks like Toyota figured out how to make a power up tailgate work on the 2024 Tacoma.

I know Rivian wanted to make that happen originally on R1T.

Maybe that means for sure it comes in a next gen Rivian R1T.

I don't think there was ever question about being able to make it happen. It's cost and complexity tradeoffs all the way down.

My Tacoma’s tailgate hardly weighs anything. I would feel like a complete idiot using a powered version of it.

The powered tailgate was far more complex than just an open/close tailgate. Theirs had the ability to go from 0-90 degrees, to 180 degrees to better facilitate rear access.

The cables that hold a tailgate at 90 degrees, would also decouple, to allow it to swing the full 180. Watch the video below.

It feels like the hood of a mid sized truck.

well my comment on the tailgate inside of a thread about tailgates seemed to make you a little “emotional”, so I apologize - I truly didn’t realize that you would be here defending the honor of the powered tailgate so fiercely. They truly are lucky to have you on their side.

also sorry for not asking your permission before posting this. Seemed redundant since I was responding to you and I wasn’t insulting additional tailgates.

I think someone may have negatively commented on the Tacoma’s looks in another thread - you better get yourself over there quick!
