So model 3 driver… making the switch.

Love that we will be able to charge at the stations… game changer…. However…

I don’t think that cord is going to reach When pulling in! I can already see the fights when parking in stall #2 and having to use stall #1’s charge cable!? ?

I"m going to try to avoid the crowded ones and only use them if there is no other option. The nice thing is that the V4 charging stalls have longer cords and seem to reach just fine.

Yeah the only time i could see needing it is longer road trips…. Going to and from Oregon they are EVERYWHERE… They also seem to be the lowest cost. I find it averaging about .27 a kilowatt..

Electrify America is over .50 in socal..

Yeah whatever. Tesla drivers are just going to have to get used to dealing with the same issues we CCS users have had to deal with forever - different cars have different charge port locations and they all have to connect to the pedestals from different stalls, some by backing-in and some by pulling-in. At least EA etc. TRIED to design their stations to accommodate different geometries - Tesla didn't.

Tesla superchargers are not going to get 100% utilization unless all the vehicles are the same design. That's not going to be the case when Tesla opens up their chargers to all vehicles. Welcome to the club.

CCS users manage to shuffle and share at EA stations without fights breaking out all the time, so unless Tesla owners are entitled jerks there shouldn't be a problem doing the same thing at superchargers. When Tesla opens up the superchargers to Rivians, then Rivians have just as much right to use the supercharger as a Tesla.

The flip side of this problem is that Tesla drivers will usually (if they're being courteous) skip every other space to avoid derating another Tesla that's already charging. The result is half the spaces might be free, but there will be no spot that a Rivian (or other manufacturer that has a charging port on the front left or back right) can charge. I encountered this on one of my stops at a Magic Dock. Not the end of the world, but still an issue.

Oh, I Googled and you're right. My bad. Guess it was just a coincidence and all the Tesla drivers didn't want to be too close to each other. End result was still that I couldn't charge until someone finished.

The reason teslas don't park side by side in stalls is that two adjacent stalls are served by 2 chargers that share power (1A and 1B, 2A and 2B etc). The Tesla vehicle UI tells you that it is faster to charge if you are not parked to someone who is using 1A if you wanted 1B. It just slows down charging.

And again, that's for V2 only, right? That doesn't apply to V3+ Magic Dock, right?

That I am not sure. There are no Magic Docks near me so I have yet to experience them.

All Magic Docks are V3. There are also exactly three locations in the US that have V4 pedestals with Magic Dock, but these are not true V4 stations yet since they still have V3 transformers.

V2 chargers cannot support the Magic Dock. Rivians can't use any V2, and won't be able to use the V2 even when the adapters are released. As far as I can tell it is only the V2 that do power sharing.

And I predict MANY confused EV drivers trying to use their adapters at V1, V2, Urban and Destination chargers ... none of these will work with the CCS to NACS adapters.

They are going to need a "Not CCS compatible" sticker to clear confusion but then someone will put them on all SC units. Sometimes we'll get lucky and be able to park next to another CCS car that is using the "wrong" cable and that makes it better because we'll use their "correct" one. Sometimes there might be a parking spot on the other side or a dirt lot and we can just pull up from the other side and choose any available unit.
