you have to start the charging session via the Tesla app, input location and stall, then plug-in to your Rivian.
I see my error now. (Plugged in first) The confusing part also was Rivian support comment about it not being allowed. Thanks for the help!

So you know everything and don’t need any help then?
No, I’m the first person to state how much I don’t know. Love the help.

Your post on Tesla charging was helpful. I just don’t appreciate you telling me I was jumping to conclusions when I clearly stated that Rivian told me this wasn’t allowed.

I’ve got the help needed (plugged in first before using the app). Thanks!

The simplest option is to avoid Tesla entirely if at all possible. Just sayin’.
Hardly, its the most reliable and cost-effective network available by far. Unless you are suggesting that we should be virtue signaling? Just saying

The problem is Tesla is so much cheaper. On a shorter trip I’d probably just use EA.

I just did 6,600 miles, mostly Tesla because of the price. The trip cost me a total of 1,215 in charges, if I used all EA which was possible, where I used Tesla, it would have been 1,465. If it was all Rivian, which was not possible, it would have been 1,759. Those numbers are based on the average price I paid for EA and RAN on this trip.

As a side note, most of the Tesla chargers were pretty open, a lot of them I could charge without blocking anything, the others were open enough not to matter. V4s are no issues at all.

The only place I skipped the Tesla and went to an EA down the road was Girard, OH. Only one middle spot was open and I could not get into it to charge, literally the EA was 2 miles down the highway at the next exit so I just went there.

Not wanting my money to end up in Elon’s hands isn’t mere virtue signaling in my book.

I understand the arguments people make when buying Tesla products notwithstanding what the company stands for today. I thought about getting a Tesla L2 charger for my home since it has both CCS and NACS. But even last July, I knew I’d always hate seeing that brand name in my garage.

To me it's worth having but to each their own. Don't really care about Elon but EA has screwed me so many times I can't give them any of my money. Not only is EA more expensive, it's unreliable and in the absolute worst locations possible. EA was always full of selfish idiots charging to 100% because they got "free" charging agreements with various manufaturers.

If you have to do it, not connecting to wifi will prevent Tesla from getting the charge credits. You lose app access of course. Companies don't make much money from charger itself.

Ahh, I see a sequence difference.

I did everything like you said, except the difference was I plugged in first, then went through all the Tesla App stuff. I think by the time I did the Tesla work, Rivian had taken over. Thanks for the explanation, that was probably the issue!
ohh so you cant read the directions in the tesla app
