Assuming no one is injured I think I would rather repair my house. Vehicles are never the same.

Time to start shopping for your next vehicle. I'd be looking for a used R1T if mine was totalled.

There are some great deals available on used models. Low mileage examples are only mid to low 50’s! Heck, you might be able to find one in the high 40s.

Idk, you can replace a vehicle in a few days after it's declared a loss. House repair is extremely disruptive, depending on the damage. Add that to the trauma of everyone getting scared, especially the kids.

I live on an airport. Several years back, one of my neighbors had their house hit by an airplane after the pilot lost control on landing. Luckily, no injuries, but the house was shifted on its foundation and ruled a total loss. They ended up and rebuilt the house, but placed it about 75' further away from the runway, just in case.

For the R1T in this thread, I guess it matters on if the frame or battery got bent or even dented. If the battery case is distorted at all, it's an automatic total. Kind of wonder if buying the vehicle back from insurance and driving it around Jeep style (without doors) would work - an oddball beater truck or 4 wheel vehicle that you don't have to worry about getting scratched up. :) It all depends upon what they say as the salvage value and if Rivian would block DCFC access like Tesla tends to do with access to Superchargers for vehicles that are in accidents. Range on the highway with open doors would be really bad.

I doubt that the damage is bad enough to never have a door. It may not seal properly, but getting a junkyard door to close may be relatively cheap.

Rivian will void warranty though. And they may play hardball with any issues that may come up in the future. With no repair manuals and hard to get parts, it can turn into a nightmare. I believe someone went through this on YouTube, but I could be wrong.

This is why our insurance rates keep going up.

Are you sure that you've quoted the correct post?

It's a car and it's totaled as most said and can be replaced.

You were very lucky this individual didn't drive into your house, or worse, choose to break into your house after the accident and and and.

@OP - Please let us know what insurance determines. If they do declare it totaled, remember to get all the "valuable stuff" out (camp speaker, floormats, gear guard cable, travel charger, etc.). There's a few threads floating around with checklists. Good luck!

Odds are he wasn't driving at all. If you'd read the initial post, you'd know it was sitting in his driveway and a person who was being chased by the police ~ 1AM lost control & smashed into it.
Ha! How did I miss that. The post isn’t even that long.

In any case, probably not the best to tell someone to drive well when their truck is in that shape.
