Tiger stripes in hood paint

I see, cloudy/splotchy spots also happen with silver when it's sprayed dry (too far away or not enough material).

What else do you have on the list?

Tailgate, hood, front fascia, and door on drivers side are not aligned properly…couple fisheyes in paint…weatherstripping on inside of door opening isn’t flush. Someone was drunk in the factory. There’s even a small dent and chip on the driver side sill plate, like someone dropped a screwdriver or something.

I wonder if it was flagged as a reject and was accidentally placed in the "this is perfect" lot.

Having heard how the vin/color mismatch threw them for a loop, I'm sure they're going to have an absolute panic attack over this, and something is going to change at the factory.

That being said, it's kind of an interesting effect on the hood. I've seen people put uglier crap on a car on purpose. ?

Wrap it and make it unique? Ask Rivian to cover the cost (or part of it)?

Ok I see. Also, I have seen any new silver vehicles (mainly from Toyota or Honda ) with the same paint issues. Silver is so difficult for many manufacturers it seems. But yah, not acceptable on a 6 figure (updated pricing) truck!

I worked 6 years as a warranty claims analyst/engineer at Honda's Marysville auto plant in the 1990s. I'll be watching to see how Rivian handles your situation. Reality for DaveA: you now own a (slightly) used vehicle and have certain rights under Rivian's return policy and warranty policies. Going forward, we'll see whether Rivian strictly follows their policies ... or bends over backwards to make you happy ... or something in between.
Return policy: Technically speaking, this policy applies "If your vehicle does not meet your needs ..." As shown on Rivian's website, the policy says nothing about returning your vehicle because of defects. It says nothing about receiving a replacement vehicle.
Warranty: (from the website Warranty Guide pdf) ... covers "the repair, replacement, or adjustment necessary to correct any Rivian component parts found to be defective in materials or workmanship ..."

Another reason why I always choose white for my vehicles. The other is safety as white, yellow, red, orange and bright green vehicles always stand out to other motorists. The titanium dioxide pigment in white paint is also more durable than most colors.

Road Salt Gray? Rivian should make a paint in that color. Owners in the north could save a fortune on car washes.

More brown than grey here, as treated sand(95% sand 5% salt) is primarily used due to it being too cold for salt to do much most of the winter.

I had an Acura that was “desert silver metallic”. Never, ever looked dirty

I don't think I can "Karen" my way into a new truck, but I am waiting to hear from the service lead about what the plan will be. I know they will be taking it back to the Dallas hub to address the issues. I re-watched that Kim Java video and even John Rhodes silver truck has a few images where I can see stripes in his hood too. I mentioned to my guide that they need different lighting when QCing this paint. To be continued....

I'm not a paint expert, but I've seen several comments about how Silver is a difficult color... This makes it especially surprising that Rivian would choose LA Silver to be the only no-upcharge color in their current/revised pricing model.

I know they will be taking it back to the Dallas hub to address the issues. I know...I hate that its probably going back to the same place that QCed the vehicle and allowed it to be delivered to me in that condition to have the rework done. Basically, they get this one chance to fix. If not, I'll try to sell and make a profit.
