I have a set of low-profile super Z8 chains that I run on the back tires. However, they will begin to make contact with the wheel liners above 20 mph, so they are only useful when you don't mind going slow. I also have socks for snow-only conditions or mountain pass use.

Do you run those on 34" or 33"?

I have the 275/65/R20 size, so 34." I have them because while snow socks are amazing in snow, they provide no additional traction on ice. The chains have worked very well in icy conditions, but like I said, you have to go slow to avoid damage.

The chains are legally required for certain highway passages here in BC. I wonder if socks are recognized. Good info re Rivians position. Had no idea. Thx!

Thanks, good to know. Completely agree on ice versus snow. I ended up going with Peerless Auto-Trac which are chains and a bit bigger than the Super Z8 cables. But I have 33" winter tires, so I'm hoping the extra clearance will work with the chains (I've tested them at very low speeds, but not 20-25mph yet).
