I was a consultant in the auto industry back in the 90s. Renault designed the Twingo (look for a picture if you don't know it - and it was even more freaky back then before other cars moved in that design direction) and they did some market research. 90% of people thought it was terribly ugly, would never buy it. Most companies would cancel a product with that reaction. But Renault noticed that the other 10% really really loved it - lots more passion than even a new Porsche would get. So Renault built it, and it did well.
You can't please everyone, you just need enough love to be successful.

Have you never been to Philadelphia?
Went to university in Philadelphia. Didn't venture out of the university cocoon so not much exposure to the native culture but I was not impressed.

My first post here. Thought you'd get a laugh as I did ....

Today at Wawa ….

Dude: Is that the all electric truck I keep reading about?

Me: Yep. It’s a Rivian.

Dude: It’s ugly

Me (in my head): Well, you’re fat.

Me (being polite): I disagree. It’s awesome and I get the most compliments on its looks.
I imagine this will be echoed often to those speaking to CyberTruck owners. That's definitely a love:hate design.

But--as momma always said, if you have have nothing nice to say...

TBH the most surprising thing in this thread, according to the Count, is that the idiot can read.

If Wawa served burgers, ice cream and shakes I would consider moving back, even if it meant talking to those cement heads again. I would live in @atebit ’s basement.

Start packing. They serve all three now.

Until I was relocated there for a job I had no idea the "city of brotherly love" thing was meant ironically from the beginning.

Wawa is not even in the same league as Braums. In this regard, Braums is major league, Wawa is stickball.

Both are better than what we have in NY.. we have Quick Check with a Subway shop inside. The last two times we ordered "Philly cheesesteak" from the electronic kiosk inside the store they forgot to put cheese in the "Philly cheesesteak" sandwich! They remembered the roast beef and onions, but no cheese either time on 4 sandwiches.

I'll have a pound of thin sliced roast beef- without roast beef please!

I have no allegiance to any of them. Except Buc-Ee's. They trounce anything else out there.

Every time I charge up at a place that also caters to gas-powered vehicles, I run into 3 types of people 1) People genuinely interested in EV's, 2) People genuinely interested in getting validation that EV's are bad, 3) People who don't give a crap either way

#1 is always a good interaction, you can tell they get it and believe EV's to be the future, #2 is always played off as "hey I'm interested in your EV but I'm going to keep asking questions until you tell me something that validates why I should hate EV's" - it's fun to see them try so hard, oh range must be terrible - how many miles you get to a charge? Oh that's not bad. It must take forever to charge here at these charging stations, how long? Oh that quick for up to 80%? It must be expensive - oh it isn't. Well, I only buy American. Oh it's made in Illinois? #3 is where most people are - they just want to go about their day - they may recognize the Rivian as a nice looking truck, and even wonder why I'm putting a bag of food in the engine compartment, but for the most part minding their own business.

The one common thing regardless of which group someone's in is the question they ask "Who makes the Rivian?" "Rivian." "No, which car company?" and it goes on until they finally catch on that Rivian is the company and it's a new one that they've never heard of before. It's like unfathomable that there could be a vehicle on the road that isn't made by one of the big brands...

Next time say to them:

"It's a Tesla. They decided to change the design of the Cybertruck"

or

"They named it a RIVIAN because of the sound the engine makes....sounds like REVING IT"

I love the Buc! Only issue is that the locations with chargers are only Tesla SC. My Model Y loves it but they’re a desert (currently) for the R1T.

The reason I have heart disease today is probably because I ate too many Philly Cheesesteaks.

Well, if you got them from the Subway inside the Quick Check near us.. you'd be fine as no cheese in sight in their cheesesteak sandwiches

I'm half expecting them to forget the bread one of these days....
