Some orange peel is totally fine and acceptable, but OP is showing some significant roughness on that front fender. I'm glad Rivian is willing to try and improve it for them.

SC won't do the correction, it'll go to their local certified shop.
I thought that was the case. Thanks. I wonder if my guide would know who does the paint correction in my areas SC (Gaithersburg MD). I would think they should have an idea.

I highly doubt it. The Guides only get you from interested to ass in seats. As soon as you sign the docs, you're out of their care. General customer service fields/filters your tickets and SC handles local things. If you put a ticket in for it with pics and spoke to customer service, it'll get transferred to the SC and they'll contact with availability or greenlight you going to the certified center.

I would hope Rivian refuses to cover that under warranty. Every new car under $200k has paint that looks just like that.
Well, it's a truck. I wonder if F-150, F-250, Dodge Ram buyers and full-sized SUV owners are as particular when it comes to orange peel? I know a couple of decades ago, no one would really even care. This could explain why ICE trucks and SUV's have such a high cost these days. In December, the average transaction price of a pickup had climbed to $64,000 and that of full-size SUVs/Crossovers was almost $74,000!

U.S.: Average new vehicle price by vehicle type | Statista

I guess if everyone thinks their personal vehicle is Rolls-Royce, then they will require hours of meticulous sanding and polishing by specialists. Never mind that cars tend to get driven around 200,000 miles and then crushed at the recycler, at least in the interim they can show everyone how smooth their paint is at the family gathering!

Question: If the orange peel is particularly pronounced, can Rivian charge $1000 extra for it and call it a "Range-enhancing boundary layer surface separator"?

My R1T has some orange peel, and in places where I added a little PPF (front) it looks better than where it's just paint. I am not as picky about it because it's a truck and mine will get used that way collecting dings and scratches etc. But if it bothers you now - bite the bullet and either correct the paint and add PPF or just add PPF.

Thanks for the advice. I've heard that if I don't do the paint correction but get the ceramic coat it may help. Do you know if that's true?
From everything I have read and been told is that paint correction is done because no paint finish is perfect. Then you have a shinier paint finish to apply ceramic coating and keep it shiny for several years.

I need suggestions on how to handle this orange peel issue. I took delivery a week ago and I love my R1S FG OC on 22s. However, it has orange peel all over and I've have put in a service request a day after taking delivery and seeing it as the sun went down and when I saw it I'm my garage. When I put in a request the service adviser clearly saw the issue and he scheduled me for an appt. After that I took it to a detailer who qualified to do paint correction and they could do it for a significant fee (over 2k).. I'm wondering should I let the SC correct this issue or bite the bullet and have the detailer do it. I really don't feel I shouldn't have to pay to correct an issue but I do want it properly corrected. Has anyone had paint correction done at a SC? Are you happy with the results. It's a feature. Leave it. Both of mine look similar.

The front fender looks worse then I would expect. Have it paint corrected if it bothers you. Then have it ceramic coated or do PPF. Yes some level of orange peel is normal on cars today, but it can be improved with paint correction...the only question is does it bother you enough to spend the $$ on paint correction. That's a choice only you can make.

No, now if they paint correct like a professional shop should it will. But ceramic coat alone won’t. I was going to ppf for tail pinstripes so got stealth to cover the orange peel.

Like others said pretty tough to avoid with the new epa paints and all mfgs deliver with it now.

Yeap. Noticed the same on mine. Much worse orange peel than my 2013 Lexus. Took this pic on delivery day and had them note it.

Rivian R1T R1S Took delivery. Bad Orange Peel. 1000005353

Did a lot of research. Asked some local paint specialist. Disappointingly, the consensus is this is just how cars are painted these days. A shift in painting technology. Even the new stuff that BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus puts out has it.

It was a bit disappointed, but as others have said. Wrapped in matte, problem solved.
