Transfer of R2 reservation

Eric, in a way, I agree, and have been wrestling with that very thought. I sort of feel bad about using my reservations for people who didn't make one for themselves. However, I did have the foresight to make the reservation within the first five minutes of Rivian opening the reservation queue. In the end, if it's transferable, is it any different to you than if I use the reservation for myself or my wife as originally planned? Also, there are plenty of people who are going to jump you in line because they are legacy R1 owners, which I also am. I made the reservations to create flexibility for me, my family members, and possibly a friend after experiencing a 2.5-year wait for my 2022 R1T from time of reservation to when they went into production.

With the R2, you will get yours soon enough as long as the configuration you want is the soon-to-be available version.

I suspect that Rivian won't let it happen. But of course in the great scheme of things, it won't matter to me personally. And I see your point about making the reservation with keeping in mine how it goes down for those you reserved R2s for..

For me? I want the upgraded Gen 3 electronics in the R2, so I'm going to have to wait until at least the end of the year. That's about when I'll have my car paid off and be able to use the full amount as trade-in to keep my payment down. So Win-Win.

I guess the issue with what feels like line jumping could be nothing when it all works out and they get production up and cranking them out. I'm sure plenty of people aren't going to follow through with their reservations. So six of one and half dozen of the other.

thanks, I’ll give them a ring since the two folks that want to take my reservations are my sister-in-law and close friend, both of them live within 25 miles of me. Maybe this will work out after all. Thanks for the heads up.

How did this work out (or didn’t)? I also have friend that made a reservation yesterday and was told “mid year 2027” for delivery. I’d love to pass on my reservation as I think I’m going to stick with my R1T for now.

The best way to do this is to draw up a contract between yourself and the person that wants the R2 now that allows for you to purchase the R2, they pay for it- have the buyer's name added to the title/registration. Once you have the title, you sign off your interest and they are good to go. For this to work, however, it really needs to be a cash sale.

Some states charge sales tax on used vehicle sales between private parties. In Kansas, this process would require paying sales tax on the vehicle twice (the original buyer and then the friend) - and at 6.5% as the lowest sales tax rate in the state, that adds up. This is why many are suggesting things like adding the person to the title originally and then removing your name from the title at a later date.

Frankly, I wouldn't mess with it - just too many ways for it to go sideways to mess around with attempting.

I’ll just let four of my reservations go back into the pool and keep one for my wife who is likely to trade up to a new vehicle within the next year. I have always planned to keep my 2022 R1T, at least for the foreseeable future.

Interestingly, I placed my reservations within 10 minutes of ordering opening up on the day of the launch event, yet I received communication that I will be invited to place my orders between December 2026 and February 2027. I know there are other factors involved, but I was surprised being an early R1T owner and having placed my reservation within minutes on the March 7, 2024 launch event. I hope that’s an indication of how many R2 are on reservation.

I suspect one of your five reservations is showing an earlier time window. I guess Rivian is probably trying to give everyone who puts in a reservation to at least get a chance of ordering one before someone can get the second or third one...

Does anyone know if it’s possible to transfer a reservation to another person? Has this been confirmed? I’m not looking to sell it, just looking to transfer one of my R2 reservations to a friend.
