I was going to suggest this. If no friends or family around, one of us in the area might be able to help. If you can get the charge port open we can trickle charge just enough to drive it to a L3 charger. That would involve adding one of us as a driver temporarily. It’s been done before. There was a post about it where a Rivian club member got a helping hand.

So you are definitely not talking about the traction battery. I don’t believe charging the vehicle will charge the 12 V battery.

I think I’ve been hit by the phantom drain. We parked 2 electric cars side by side on June 18. The MB is down to 62% from 100% and the R1S is 0, from 100%. They are near the airport and we won’t be back until September but does this brick mean long term damage? We left it last summer and it was fine-this year a different story. We are in another country or I would simply have it charged.

I just ordered the Quad Lauch Edition. Still waiting for a VIN. But I did own a Tesla Model X. And with the factory default setting it would drain anywhere from 3% - 10% a day both depending on the weather and second changing a bunch of settings like sentry mode and certain climate controls settings. But when the car is home Tesla always recommended the car stay plugged in so it would draw power from the charger and not the batter. I belive the Rivian has similar features and requirements.

My Mach E lost exactly 1% after 5 weeks sitting outside in 100f + weather while I was in Europe.

Mini update: I called Rivian, spoke with a representative and I was advised, after the rep confirmed and called me back, that once its dead it wont matter if i wait a month. i was suspicious and asked for written confirmation-its allegedly in my "ticket". I still plan on going for the day, they can pick it up and take it to the shop. Fingers crossed. My take away from all of this is that i should have made alternative arrangements for this car as it appears it can't be left unattended for 2+ months. If i still have it next year I will need a "plan B".

^ "plan B" if you have the Rivian next year is to park it somewhere safe then physically disconnect the 12 volt battery. Once you have done that, you will probably see about 1% drain per month on the traction battery. Leave it at 60%, SOC, when you return in two months and reconnect the 12V batt(s) it will be at 58% state of charge.

Yikes! Really sorry that this happened to the @OP. Unfortunately, leaving EVs for a long time takes some planning.

This really makes me appreciate the insane lack of phantom drain in my little EV that could, the BMW i3s. Survived being parked outside several months (Jan-Mar) in DC Winter (but definitely some sub 20 degree days in there) and barely had 5% drain.

I think his car is at the airport. They honestly should have level 1 charging in the section for long-term parking. Makes perfect sense to me.

Agreed. Denver Int’l Airport has level 2 chargers in both short and long term. Only things is they get taken up quickly. They need to install more.

Yes they do. I've never even bothered trying because they're always full. Probably easier to just do L2 because commercial power, but long term parking really only needs L1.

Our i3 was laid up for almost 2 months (Jan and Feb) at a body shop after being rear-ended two years ago. Waiting for adjuster(s), ins co approval and additional parts to arrive, it was moved in and out of the body shop quite a few of times... I was tracking it on my phone via the BMW app. I could see when it was out in the parking lot, in the shop or in the storage lot. It was never plugged in even once while it was there. It lost about the same 5% charge over two cold winter months sitting outside. The sad thing is, Rivian could do it if they put some genuine effort in to it, but it seems they really haven't done much about vampire drain yet.

Haven't used it, but most of the third-party parking services also have their own charging spots, and I think if you "valet" with some of them, it effectively ensures you get the juice while away.

But again, I don't speak from experience...I live 20 mins from DIA, so it's Uber 99% of the time for us.
