Yep. Thought I dodged it too until we got near 90.
Have you not had the BMS working hard in the 90s before? I’m on 2023.18.0 and was out by Palm Springs a couple weeks ago in the mid 90s and the BMS was working hard to keep things in check. Once I got back to the coast in the 70s things were back to normal.

I did not think twice about it as the Model S has the same behavior.

Nope. I don't DCFC and the PNW is world renowned for it's mild climate.

Not actually referring to DCFC, in both the R1S and Model S the BMS works really hard just driving around in those higher temperatures, at least they do in my experience.

In the past just sitting in the driveway in 110 degree weather the fans of the Model S would kick on high to cool the batteries. Have not had the R1S sitting in those temps yet.

Thanks @elektrode! Yes, iPhone here too. when you say "nuked" .... in a good way? If yes, I'll give it a go.
My bad, “nuke” is almost always a bad thing. :).

In this case, it worked exactly how I wanted it to. I think technically it merges any contact with the same first and last name into one. If it’s a true duplicate, that looks like a delete. It doesn’t work for a duplicate business where there’s not a first and last name.

https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/merge-or-hide-duplicate-contacts-iph2ab28320d/ios

If I recall, you can test it one one or two contacts before you request to merge them all.

So, I get a small ramp up when I first turn on AC and recirculate, fan speed 2, but goes back down to normal pre-update sound…this is 90 degree weather this morning, 1.5 hr driving in South Texas. Not sure if over 100 degrees would have any affect. Hoping my luck holds out. I also just installed a roof glass shade. ?‍♂ So maybe AC isn’t working as hard.

Biting the bullet today. Album artwork was stuck again so I pressed update out of frustration. Hopefully I don’t regret it.
An update after driving around all day today.

Sat outside for 2 hours at 98 degrees while having a beer with a friend. Intentionally did not pre-cool so I could hear it. It ramped up fairly slowly compared to what it was pre-update, lasted much longer, but was less intense overall. Audible from the outside, yes. But not quite as badly.

I’m calling it a marginal improvement but they still clearly have an issue to fix. For comparison, we took my Taycan later today and left it for the same amount of time and did not report any weed eater noises, just fans after a while. Quiet as a mouse.

I updated on Wednesday and then drove 235 miles between the Bay Area and Lake Tahoe. This was y first trip in the R1T. When using trip planning on both ABRP and the App, I told them to only look for RAN Stations (which there is one in Sacramento about 1/2 way). Both had me bypass the RAN Station and wanted me to charge at an EA about 3/4 of the way. No..I wanted RAN.

So I did it the old fashioned way and did a destination to the RAN charger in Sac, then to my final stop in the Tahoe Area. I was impressed with the percentage at destination meter as it was spot on...like 45% in Sac, and 30% in Tahoe. This was even with two e-bikes on the hitch rack.

Just drove mine after the update. Driver+ still asks me to take control when passing through overhead toll booths. (Hardy Toll Road, Houston, Texas).

Also, Driver+ seems a bit regressed. I feel like I've been getting warnings a lot more frequently.
Same with me passing Through every overhead toll on 99/Grand Parkway.

Had Driver+ report road as unmapped today on a road I’ve driven on with Driver+ for 10 or more months.

I've also experienced what other have described as " weed eater" noise immediately post update. As in the very next morning.

Apart from that, has anyone else noticed that the ventilated seats are not nearly as effective?

Immediately prior to the update we were enjoying pre-cooling the truck and seats. Upon entry we'd have to turn the seats either to the lowest position or off as they would get too cold. They are not at all effective to cool before entry and you can leave them on in the highest position while driving without being able to tell they are even on. Backwards.

A/C on Auto is now mostly useless. It doesn't respond much at all as temps rise and fall.

I also believe Rivian has made a mistake with respect to "optimizing driver and center display overheat protection thresholds." My vehicles sits outside and since the update I've seen temps of 136. And if you linger touching the screen you can indeed burn yourself. It used to always be comfortable to enter - no longer.

Note that none of these changes have improved my energy loss while parked, which has been averaging about 1% per day.

This update is the first where my experience with the vehicle has actually turned much worse.

I’ve experienced the same disappointing seat cooling/ ventilation. I used to have to turn the cooling of the seats down to low after a bit. Now I can leave them on high for my full 40 minute commute without really noticing that they are running much at all - not the experience that I was bragging to others about prior to the update.

Charge curve in phone app has also been broken for me. It only shows the ramp up, then doesn’t show anymore time samples:

This was my big concern with the release notes mentioned removing the overheat protections. It should have been an option to toggle on or off. Outright removing them is definitely going to cause the interior to get uncomfortably hot and not be good for the electronics / interior materials.. sad that with all that it didn’t even improve the vampire drain. I’m gonna just keep trying to ignore the update requests. This was a step backwards in many ways it seems.

I don’t know how much Rivian reads these forums, but just in case it’s not that much, likely a good idea to file concerns with CS so they know what’s going on.

Agree that the overheat protections should have been a toggle.

has anyone noticed that we lost regen power again. high regen now feels more like medium regen just like an update earlier this year. please stop messing with regen power rivian!!
I've noticed this. I've also noticed that regen seems to be much more limited at 80% + charge where prior it used to be fine. (capped to like 50% or something)

I'm going to test this more...
