[SOLUTION 8/12/25] They first few Typhoon Pro v2 adapters have a comms pin that is too short for the Tesla V4 Supercharger. Contacted A2ZEV for a replacement and they sent one out immediately. Highly recommend.

[Original Post]

Is anyone else struggling at V4 Superchargers recently? I've been to two stations that claimed they were open to all but they wouldn't initiate a charge. I tried multiple bays at each station and couldn't get the Magic Dock to release. I even looked up a couple of videos to make sure I was doing it right. They also wouldn't talk with the Rivian through my A2Z adapter. I tried both initiating through the Tesla app and just plug and play.

V3 stations I have no problem. Has anyone else struggled like this or have any tips?

I've used several V4 recently, but they weren't magic dock and I used the Rivian (aka Tesla) adapter - no problems initiating a charge.

Since Tesla started their NACS Partner program and the partner OEMs began issuing/selling adapters, there were numerous articles reporting Magic Docks being disabled—and configured to operate as any other Supercharger with NACS plug; i.e. use your own adapter.

Maybe status of particular ones you tried changed but not updated in system. Or they were just glitched. Tesla app has option to report problems.

Maybe my issue is using the A2Z adapter at a V4 then. Next time I'll try the Tesla adapter.

I’ve used both Tesla and A2Z at V4 stations with no issues. I have had an issue at a V3 Magic Dock station in Foxborough, MA exactly as you describe, ended up going to an EA down the road, I was able to use that station at another time though so I think it is a Tesla issue.

I don't think that should be a problem unless your adapter is broken. But since Service won't look at your truck with a 3rd-party adapter, getting the Rivian one may be your only recourse.

I'll double check my A2Z works on a V3 charger and the next time I'm at a V4 I'll try the Tesla adapter. I could have just had extraordinarily bad luck with the two V4 Superchargers that I tried.

Thanks for all the help!

Some of the early on Typhoon Pro had a short communication pin and would not register on V4 cabinets.

It might help if you specify exactly which stations you're talking about. Tesla has only a few active Magic Dock stations, and most of those are V3. There's only one in all of Florida, for instance, and that's a V3 in Tampa.

While all the V4 stations that I know of have a Magic Dock adapter built-in, the vast majority don't function as Magic Dock chargers - the dock will not release and you will have to use an NACS adapter (if the charger even allows non-Teslas ...).

two stations that claimed they were open
Yup, missing important detail. Claimed open by what? Tesla app with your account profile set as Rivian + adapter? Rivian nav, shown as compatible location? Or simply shown as operational?

They were both Magic Dock equipped, but non-supported (just figured out the not-supported part today). Both showed up in the Rivian NAV with adapter selected and in the Tesla app with my R1T with adapter profile selected.

TIL that nearly all of the V4 Magic Dock stations no longer release the adapter.

Yup. And that's because mid-stream Tesla changed their business strategy. Pivoting away from "universal" dispensers and favoring the NACS Partner model (and granting other OEMs access to select sites and adapters).

And of course Ive been leaving my Tesla supplied adapter at home because the A2Z was working so well, so I can't troubleshoot that aspect.

I keep both in my truck. Never a bad thing to have backups and redundancy.
