Just completed my first trailering with the new truck. Ended up ordering a long ball mount since standard sizes seemingly put the ball about 2" from the tailgate.

Where is everyone keeping their hitches when not installed? I would like it to go down with the spare tire, but trying to find a place that it won't be flying around banging into things.

I put it in a small canvas bag in the bottom portion of the frunk. Bought a small range bag from Amazon for this and some other small tools I decided I wanted to keep in the truck.

I keep the one for my Jeep in with the spare tire, just wrapped it up in an oversized towel so it wedges in and does not move around.

A hitch doesn't seem like something that you would need to carry with you at all times. How often are you away from home/wherever you park your trailer when you decide it is time to install the hitch?

How about storing the hitch in your garage or in/on/next-to the trailer?

I keep mine along with adapters and tow straps in a small tub in the gear tunnel. I got a towel in there that the hitches sit on so there's not metal on metal dinging around all the time.

I keep mine in a canvas bag under the rear bench next to a canvas bag of ratchet straps and bungies.

I keep one of these in the sub-frunk with a hitch ball, elastic recovery rope, ratchet straps/tiedowns and some other tools: Tamarin Trunk | STEP 22 Gear Adventure Travel Gear Bag. Also fits great under the rear seat if I need to shuffle things around.

I also have Rivian's recovery kit for when I'm planning to go offroad, which I stash in the gear tunnel.

I was wondering about this, and I'm going to be trailering a boat for 1st time next week. I'm glad I saw this post. What size (length) long ball mount did you get?

I have a small tool bag that contains random items that I may need, like tie down straps, hitch and pin lock, jumper cables (kept in there from my ICE vehicle), and some basic screwdriver set. I also have a Ryobi 18v impact drill with an 18v battery that I keep in the gear tunnel with the bag incase I need to change a tire, makes it much quicker and convenient to replace a tire if needed. The bag just sits in the gear tunnel and I haven't noticed it bouncing around or anything. I also permanently took the hitch cover off of the truck because I don't want to have to try and keep up with it if I need to use the hitch, it's not aesthetically unpleasing to me since it's a truck.

I would love to use the under bench in the rear, but removing car seats to do it is a pain.

Definitely going to check out some of the padded bags. And potentially store under the frunk where I keep the charger and 7 to 4 pin adapter

I use a towel for that too. Added bonus: I have a towel handy if I need to fix something where I have to kneel or lie on my back.

Looks like I'll be alright with my ball hitch.
