Exactly. Recall all the hysteria following release of gauge view and motor temps that weren’t even near red? Some people just don't know what to do with the information and jump to conclusions. Plus, as long as it is accepting and holding charge as normal, what difference would it make knowing the temp? other than to satisfy a passing curiosity? In which case one could just take note of the reading ahead of and after the session. My guess is to prevent unnecessary user concerns of temps during charging.
It’s all a balance between surfacing too much metrics vs not overwhelming user.
e.g. user could be like “it’s only 120°, why isn’t it charging faster?” But there could be other factors.
This is the nail on the head for me. Until Rivian gets us to "complete the charge at xx time on specific days of the week", I was wanting this to jump in the truck and let it charge until the pack was about 65 to 68 degrees before my commute. During dcfc I wouldn't care. Just thought it would be nice to see that I had warmed the pack up to operating temp. Fingers crossed that we eventually get scheduled departure charging. You can view it though the ABRP app if you want. I personally love looking at this data and have used it to figure out exactly when to charge my Truck in the early AM so that the battery is a optimal temp right around when I leave for work. I am one of the rare few who dosent care about efficiency or range but this will make a big impact on that. Yes you could do the same by setting it to precondition while plagged in but you are essentialy using extra electricity to say charge from 8pm -11pm.... it cools back down and the precondotions using more power from 5am - 6am. For me I just like my battery warm so I can get full power out of it. when cold both power and regen are limited.
This is the ticket, shows charging curve as well in ABRP live data while charging. You can view it though the ABRP app if you want. That would be nice. Then I don't need to do the math to figure it out myself. This is the nail on the head for me. Because you all lost your minds when they gave us battery health. Can you imagine the insanity if people saw temps in the 130's+???Pretty much the title...![]()
