Either triangle window trim need replacement, or appliqué above front windshield is not higher than glass roof…or the huge gaps to left and right of A-pillar and windshield…they catch a lot of wind.
I just had the roof applique changed out recently and it did not fix my wind noise issue. I actually feel like it got worse :crying: Can you send a picture of exactly where you think the issue is with the A pillar or triangle window trim? I want to look into it on mine to see if that's possibly the issue I need corrected.

Some of my wind noise is from this vertical piece where triangle window meets drivers side window. The shiny black trim piece doesn’t push the weatherstripping tightly against the window. I’ve taped it off with black electrical tape and it lowers the noise. These vehicles have some wind noise even with all seals done properly especially crosswinds. It will not be eliminated entirely. People who say they have “no wind noise” still have buffeting wind noise etc noise around the front or just aren’t that bothered by it.

Interesting. So you used electrical tape to try to push it down a little bit more for a better seal? I'll give it a go and see if I get any significant noise reductions. While they were changing out the roof applique, I had an R1T loaner and the wind noise in that was waybetter than my personal. So I'm using that as a comparison point.

well, i taped up all around that vertical piece...to fix without tape, yes, it needs to clamp with the inner piece more tightly...my trucks at the SC and this is on the list...the other thing the tech noted during our driver was wind noise coming in around the door...so i think they will adjust the door weather stripping in the door jam to meet more tightly with the door.

Thanks. I'll investigate more in that area and hit up the SC once I feel like I have a better idea of what needs to be fixed.

I put duct tape over the front of the glass on top and over the triangle piece on passenger side and it pretty much eliminated all wind noise except for wind there are large crosswind gusts--which we have been having a lot lately in atlanta area.

I've had them look at the wind noise issue 3 times now and they have never fixed it. So i tried the duct tape myself and it's now dead obvious where the noise is coming from on mine: passenger triangle glass piece and the front part of the glass roof on the passenger side is above the painted part that is between the top glass and the windshield. vin in the 3000s

I'll try this out too. VIN in early 6000s.

Yeah, a lot more testing to do...glad you pinpointed it for yours though...instead of having them rip off that applique and reapplying, I am going to try 3/8 inch black rubber tubing in that gap....it worked on Teslas, from what i've read.

I am still suspicious of the weatherstripping between the windshield and the black A-pillar trim....if you notice, where the two meet is not connected...it can be pushed outward, so wind hitting it at 55 and up causes the buffeting noise beneath and around that A-pillar, both sides. ...i haven't taped it off yet to confirm. To me, that was a poor design. #notanengineer

During the Rivian factory tour, we watched the installation of the driver side triangle piece of glass in the EDV manufacturing process (assume the R1T/S is similar but couldn't see that part of the production line during the tour). In this process, a robot applies the adhesive bead to each triangle glass so you would assume each unit has a consistent bead of adhesive sealant. However, a technician applies the final force to install it - and then smacks it a few times with rubber mallet to ensure a good seal. This final installation process seems like it'd be ripe for inconsistent levels of force, adherence and sealant.

Of course, this may or may not have anything to do with the varying levels of wind noise we're seeing on vehicles in this area of the vehicle.

When my truck was at the Brooklyn SC for other work, they also decided to look at my two wind noise tickets. Of course they couldn’t find anything. The service advisor claimed that they use some kind of an ultrasonic microphone to try and sniff out the wind noise. Well, the battery must be dead in this ultrasonic mic because they claim they couldn’t hear anything. The other issue is that they are limited to where and how fast they can drive the truck in the Brooklyn area while testing, so that could be another reason why they were not successful.

I know that I sure as hell heard it on the long trip home via the various turnpikes.

Where are you buying the rubber tubing? That's an interesting idea. And do you just shove it down in there?

I haven't purchased it yet, but its this on Amazon. $10 bucks, so no big deal if it doesn't work, right? I'm thinking this size...depends on the gaps I guess. My thinking is just pinch it and tuck it in that gap and then it expands in there tightly hopefully.

I just bought 33ft to try on the a pillar and roof where the metal meets the glass.
I did notice that the one in that link is 1/4 in diameter, 3/8 internal....may have to step it down to 3/8 in diameter depending on the gap, since they all seem to vary.
