One possibility is that the SC you would take delivery at is already booked months out.

#2 and #5 - it seems you think that your selection coinciding with the most popular configurations works to your advantage? It might be working against you because popularity could exasperate supply issues.Nice try at the misquote, but for the record I said *SEEMINGLY* no process.
And, yes I did look at those 6 factors.
So, yeah using math, logic, and reason, ANYONE would not expect #3 above to be outweighed by wheels and skid plate differences.
- Delivery Location: SAME SERVICE CENTER area.
- Configuration: SAME except for wheels and skid plate which Rivian support said my choices were most popular.
- Preorder date: mine was 3 months earlier than his.
- Batching production: SAME exterior and interior which is the MAJOR batching factor from what Rivian has mentioned on several occasions; sure wheels and skid plate are minor factors but again, if it was known, then I would have changed my configuration.
- Supply availability: Again, per the Rivian support person, 20" AT wheels and skid plate is most popular.
- Shifts in customer preference: I have NOT changed my configuration where he did 6 weeks ago.
Rivian isn’t going to do that. And neither will any other car company. Just let it go.Again, if Rivian would provide SOME guidance on supply chain shortages, I would have definitely switched my wheels and skid plate and let the configuration thrashing dooms day scenarios fall where they may.
Let me at once try to make you feel better about your “situation” and acknowledge your frustration. Just yesterday, I matched with a car, meaning that I was given a VIN number.Someone please explain how someone who preordered a *nearly identical* R1S configuration 3 months (6/21) AFTER I preordered mine (3/21) could have gotten his delivered two weeks ago especially AFTER he changed his exterior color to my original exterior color (Midnight) and his wheels (22") at the 11th hour while I'm still waiting for my July-August delivery window estimate!? Essentially, the ONLY 2 differences in his configuration and mine are that I included skid plates and 20" AT blacked out wheels. Could skid plates and 20" AT wheels be the hold up?

And what car company has a “transparent” system? I’d say Rivian has been more transparent than every other car company I’ve dealt with.I think Rivian has a lot of factors that influence delivery dates. They have made it overly complicated. As far as I know these are the factors that can get you an R!S in a shortened time frame
1. Family and Friends
2.Proactive guides .They seem to be few and far between. Many of the guides used to work for State Farm cooperate and find the Rivian position "more relaxing". Make your own conclusion.
3. Paying an increased MSRP . Rivian is a publicly held company and even though we don't like it , those of us who reserved our vehicle before the price increase get the shaft.
4. Proximation to a service area.
I'd like to echo others who have the same concerns, that is with the guides. Unfortunately, Rivian has thrown an unnecessary curve ball in the reservation process by giving guides leeway in helping others "jump" the line in order to get their new vehicle. Instead there should be a transparent point system in determining when you get your vehicle. The current system isn't fair but it doesn't have to be. It does look poor on Rivian management though.
Just because other's might not does't mean Rivian should notAnd what car company has a “transparent” system? I’d say Rivian has been more transparent than every other car company I’ve dealt with.
Changes do not delay your orders. It's the configuration that might. So he could have changed to a more available (meaning built more of them) configuration. AT wheels and underbody protection definitely can affect delivery dates. They aren't building these to order, they just build batches of what they think the demand is. Then match cars with orders.Someone please explain how someone who preordered a *nearly identical* R1S configuration 3 months (6/21) AFTER I preordered mine (3/21) could have gotten his delivered two weeks ago especially AFTER he changed his exterior color to my original exterior color (Midnight) and his wheels (22") at the 11th hour while I'm still waiting for my July-August delivery window estimate!? I ordered on 6/2021 and didn't get a guide until I selected an R1S from the shop. This was after a test drive in March in Brooklyn. Test drives really do help you get access.I'd reach out to customer service and inquiry why you haven't been assigned a guide given your 3/21 pre-order date.
