I didn’t realize the speed limit signs were being read to provide the driver screen speed limit data. Thought it was from GPS data. Interesting….

Several roads in my area have very clear permanent speed limit signs, which our Rivians ignore in favor of some inaccurate database somewhere.

Rivian Nav still seems to have no effective way to get user feedback on even the simplest errors. I'd happily let them see my videos in order to make the Nav database better for others....

I don't know if my Rivian read the sign, or some other car with cameras read it and then added it to a database that Rivian uses. Either way, I thought it was pretty funny! Get off my lawn, punk kids!

Interesting... I wonder how often this data gets updated. A couple of days ago I noticed that my Rivian showed a speed limit of 85mph on a highway where it 65 is posted... I drive this road almost every day, so I knew it wasn't right. It's one of the few places I dive regularly where Driver+ works. . The following day Driver+ wasn't available on that same road, and then yesterday it was all back to normal. idk.

It's both actually. You can tell when the map database disagrees with the sign.

As you drive by the sign, the speed limit on the dash changes. About a minute later it reverts back to the value in the map database.

The ML Rivian is using isn't up to par with reading signs though. It is pretty much useless in northern IL, it doesn't understand the difference between speed limit, truck speed limit, bus speed limit signs.

Yeah, my R1T reads the EZPass lane speeds when I'm in the poor-people lanes on the beltway. It's definitely reading the signs at least some of the time.

Was going to make this exact comment - It gets this wrong almost every time for me on IL roads

It reads the signs. Every time I drive through a construction zone, it reads the temporary lower speed signs and adjusts back to regular highway speed as soon as you pass another sign. The temporary construction zone signs are not in any database.

Gen 1 potato cameras read it as 80, Gen 2 reads it as 30.

I agree and it seems to hold the read speed limits only for a short period. If you drive some back roads where the speed limit does not seem to be in the database it will read a sign on the road and display it for a short time before dropping it and displaying nothing.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Highway 1, Watsonville to Santa Cruz … 85mph. When D+ automatically attempts to match speed limit with ACC, this is an alarming discovery.

Note: it’s 65 max here. Whatever database they’re drawing from has some significant flaws on a not-insignificant stretch of highway. And it says 65 on multiple signs, so db<->visual reconciliation isn’t happening properly.
