What? You've never experienced or heard of Tesla hate, where people got caught, on camera mind you, keying Telsas as they walked by it all because it's an EV? Now imagine the same for the first EV truck out there (and more so due to people missing out due to this price hike in addition to "EV hate").
I think people are being a bit dramatic. Youre always gonna have haters when youre driving a nice car, but people have since turned around to EVs (relatively speaking). I think the word has gotten out that keying a car these days (especially an EV) means you may get caught in the act.

Died of old age during the wait
My delivery window was next month. I just got an email from Rivian and I can confirm as a LE holder this price increase affects is LE preorders too. I went from 78500 to 90500 a $12000 increase. Unfortunately, this prices me out of a beta test product. I’m out. Anyone know how to get out $1000 back?
Don't cancel until the vehicle is in your driveway. Seriously. Fuck them over and return it used. It's the mirror image of how they've treated us.

But in all seriousness (the above is only 50% serious), keep the pressure on until delivery, keep on asking them why someone whose guide outreach was last week gets to pay $12k less, and don't accept anything other than a full explanation that actually addresses the issue (or an abject apology).

I'd call them directly before cancelling. Get 100% confirmation that you will be affected. LE holders shouldn't be hit with this and they need to be aware of this.

Cancelling is easy, just log on to your account, check your config, and you'll see a cancellation button near the deposit/price point. Still, I'd get solid confirmation as a LE reservation holder.

It's pretty ironic that Tesla went through the same thing (price increase), the same dissatisfaction, the same "I'm cancelling my pre-orders and going to (X company)", and they're still making and selling their vehicles.

History repeats itself (still, the price increase does suck).
There is apparently no situation where Tesla will not be held up as the model of virtue. I *guess* the extended implication is that Rivian stock will make early holders very wealthy. And that customers will be treated like Tesla customers.

And that we should be OK with that.

while I understand it’s hard, but you never know what the reaction will be to this if they see take rates plummet. Right now I think this is a matter of performance as a company than price elastisicity. You are still out the refundable $1,000 just wait and see.
If you seriously think Rivian is going to back track on the price increase I have some $10K LE reservations to sell you

https://www.motortrend.com/news/rivian-r1t-r1s-two-motor-standard-battery-pack-details/

Motortrend article says the two motor version will be based on Rivian designed motors - which may be why they won’t start until 2024 with those. The design and testing may not be ready.

Also talk of an R1X with 1,200 HP.

I am curious when our delivery estimates are updated if the number of people on this board canceling is accurate and reflective of all pre-order holders.

LE are being hit with it, you only need to go into your account; pricing has been updated.

Got another email from Rivian:

Rivian R1T R1S R1T & R1S Updated Pricing, Configuration, Specs. Dual Motor Now Available a58e524e-3a31-4da7-b8fa-34eb140e3ff2
Hi Sam,
You should have received an email regarding a price increase to your Rivian preorder.

Your Rivian Account page has been updated to reflect current pricing and options for your R1T and is now live. Your account page includes an itemized list of the choices in your existing configuration so you can see the cost for each selection. You’ll find pricing for all vehicle options in the configurator.

We appreciate you taking this journey with us. If you have questions, we’re here to answer them.

— Team Rivian

*Please note that changes to any existing preorder may affect your vehicle’s delivery window.

They made me change my preorder (from max pack) to large pack so that they can guarantee delivery in 2022. Early 2019 pre-holder. So when they state “Please note that changes to any existing preorder may affect your vehicle’s delivery window” seems like another backhand to the face. Of course I am going to need to make changes so that I can get the cost more manageable now that the price increased over $23k CAD for me. This is some messed up comms from Rivian and multiple kicks in the ass. From no comms to 2 emails today - I guess we asked for additional comms. Lol.

People? Dramatic? Say it ain't so >sarcasm here<

Be that as it may, it has happened a frequent number of times and it will repeat itself within the truck community when/if Rivians proliferate in numbers enough. Most of those fools don't care. They try to be slick and have it "look accidental" but the camera doesn't lie. Yet, these idiots still do it. There maybe a lot of turn around regarding EVs, but there is still a lot of animosity towards them due to what EVs represent to them.

This is very disappointing to see prices raised by 20% for those who ordered so early and have been waiting for 3 years. They could have waived at least for the launch edition folks. I am definitely out considering the property taxes in my state, registration and insurance costs!!! Perhaps, its time to look for a more practical alternatives.
