I eliminated all the extras accept the spare tire and all weather mats. I had already been on the fence about keeping the camp kitchen knowing it probably wouldn't be delivered with the vehicle, and didn't want to finance something that I wouldn't be able to use right away. I'm only $4k above my original price at $86,100. If they raise again I'm out.

For anyone with a Rivian preorder as of the March 1 pricing announcement, your original configured price will be honored. If you canceled your preorder on or after March 1 and would like to reinstate it, we will restore your original configuration, pricing and delivery timing. Our team will be sending an email in the next few days with more details.

What really burns me, is the randomness of who gets to test drive or when you will get a delivery. I pre-ordered on day one (11-26-2018) R1T LE, LG, FE, 20" AT and I live an hour from the factory. I had to beg and plead to get a test drive at the Normal First Mile Event, while others who ordered later and lived further away got invited. Now I watch as people with 2019 pre-orders are finalizing their orders and still get the original pricing. Who makes these decisions ? It's so random and unfair to the earliest supporters.
Oh wow, hard to blame you for being upset. I'm pretty sure it was the Forest Edge interior that did you in - they have only been including Black Mountain in the batches they are doing now. Regardless - it seems extremely unfair that you would now being paying so much more than your peers perhaps simply because you made a choice without all the information available.

I've been waiting for 3 1/2 years and I'm not getting any younger. Waiting another 2 years for a downgraded version or switching to a Silverado EV, F-150 Lightning doesn't fit my timeline. The way things are going, I'm sure the prices will be higher in 2 years. I don't want another ICE vehicle.

What really burns me, is the randomness of who gets to test drive or when you will get a delivery. I pre-ordered on day one (11-26-2018) R1T LE, LG, FE, 20" AT and I live an hour from the factory. I'm still in, largely because I had my first call from a Guide less than 3 hours before the email came out Tuesday, so my price (supposedly) has not changed - I should know for sure when I have the longer follow up call with the Guide next week.

Even if my price does go up, I will probably keep the order and take delivery in 4-6 weeks (if that window holds). As JEV says above, "I'm not getting any younger". I too have been waiting over 3 years for this truck and don't want to reset my timeline for another year or two if I can avoid it. I want an electric truck and if the R1T does not work for me, I have reservations in for Lightning and Avalanche (RST and First Edition). Honestly, the Ford and Chevy have features that I find lacking in the R1T, but the R1T's biggest advantage for me in that it is not as big as the others. I would actually prefer the R1T being a few inches shorter. However, at this point I'm not dropping the other reservations in case I decide to change course next year.

I will be taking delivery basically sight unseen. I saw a few R1Ts on the parking lot of Rivian's Plymouth facility (before they kicked me off the property) but have not yet been inside/driven one or have seen Forest Green (my configuration) exterior in person. First Mile has been a disaster. Granted COVID caused complications, but businesses are open, and I was easily able to test drive 3 vehicles in the past year (Bolt, ETron, MachE) so it can be done. But the way that has been managed, along with the lack of timely communications, delays, and the bizarre way the price correction was applied to long term pre-order holders does not give me a lot of confidence in Rivian as a corporation right now - certainly much less than I had a year ago.

Rivian's missteps over the past 12 months greatly concern me as it relates to the long-term success of the company, and in turn the value of their vehicles. The R1 looks on paper like an excellent platform, and all the reviews have been positive - some calling it the best truck and/or vehicle they have ever tested. If that is indeed true, and they can pull it together and get/keep their customer base happy, they could be a huge success story.

Guess I should have read all the recent posts before I hit 'post reply' to my long-winded previous post. :)

Perhaps there is hope!

That was fast. They either gambled and lost or someone got to pull some levers unsupervised and the boss found out.

Wow what a wild ride! I was hanging in before and I am SUPER in now. For a few reasons

* Pricing is now back to previous levels that I was already OK with.
* Anchoring effect makes it feel like I'm getting a discount.
* No wait, this is real and absolutely a discount and folks who were not preorder holders will pay the new, higher, rates. This means that this vehicle purchase will actually appreciate in value once I purchase it (for the first year anyways) which is a massive improvement from the normal drastic depreciation upon driving a vehicle off the lot.
* When I go to sell my R1S in 5, 7, 10 years down the line I will have received a cumulative 22.5k discount on a replacement between the preorder holder pricing and the expected expiration of the 7.5k fed rebate (I expect they'll sell more than the limited 250k by the time I sell).
* My current Model 3 is experiencing a similar trend as I purchased mine for 45k after rebates in 2018 and they've only raised prices and lost the fed rebate. And that was before the recent used car price increases.

Our order remains in place. When we saw the price increase email, we were more disappointed than angry. We attended one of the early expos in Denver in the Summer of 2019. We got to talk to R.J. and some of the engineers one-on-one. We were impressed that they were so excited about their trucks. Their excitement was contagious.

The price increase was quite significant. Were were also concerned that the new price might put the truck beyond being eligible for the Federal tax credit. Even though we have a very early order date (11/28/18, #2266), we are still a year out from delivery. This being the case, we were also concerned that we might be in for further price increases.

We decided to stick it out and see what happened. All's well that ends well.

I have one foot out. I have a deposit on a polestar ready to take delivery and I also have my first mile drive set for Friday. It will have to be real good to be worth the extra 40k.
Sadly the test drive doesn’t show much. Maybe yours will be more interesting and resemble your daily commute (or urban/highway settings). Ours was the first mile event in Sonoma. Even as an avid off-roader I don’t spend more than 1-2% of my time off-road so the test drive was somewhat useless to me. I would have preferred an inroad test drive and maybe a Land Rover dealership style mini off-road course.
Instead they suent dozens of millions on really large events reserved to a select few and wonder where the money goes and why they’re not reaching a broader public.
