anyone else notice an oddly large amount of energy being reported “low voltage accessories” in the session summary on the new charging page? I charged overnight at 3kW and apparently in about 13 hours I spent 7.2kW on low voltage accessories. That’s about 500w. before anyone asks, 110v outlets are off and truck should have just been sitting parked.

Toward the end of the charge it sure sounded like maybe the coolant pump was running, but even if that were it , that should be reported in the “cabin and battery temps” section which was only 0.1kwh which seems suspiciously low.

Software bug? They can’t possibly have these 2 charge sub categories swapped right? any other ideas?

It's not a lie but it's sad how horribly inefficient the charging is. At 11 KW it's not too bad though but if you're trying to charge off 120 volt that really hurts.

At 3 KW you can even see the effects here.

huh, my instinct was charging slower would be more efficient- fewer i2r losses, maybe less stressful for the battery. My 30a breaker would let me charge at 6kW but I figured I don’t actually need it to charge that fast for daily driving. I’m also coping with lack of advanced/smart charge scheduling options, such as preferentially charge during the day (from solar) and this was my poor man’s hack to continue charging in the day (I work from home normally).

Maybe I’ll try doubling the charge speed to 6kW and see if i can get higher % of energy into the battery.

“low voltage accessories “ sure seems like a misnomer though.

I suspect the accessory draw is per hour and not per KWh. So yes doubling your charge rate should improve it.

As for scheduling, you probably just want to get an evsc that supports scheduling. Ideally when you can programmatically enable based on solar battery charge state.

300 to 500w seems to be the overhead energy usage that people have reported for awhile. I suspect some of it still has to do with their "home" PAAK not actually disabling the proximity functions and it just keeps it from locking/unlocking, generally preventing the truck from going to a deep sleep for very long. Just a poorly educated guess though.

I'm not sure there are many that do. Wallbox Pulsar Plus with an add-on module seems like one option. Not sure if others have recommendations.

My solar puts out about 3.5kW peak (thus the desire to charge at ~3kW) and it seems because of the inefficient charger that the savings from self-consuming solar are going to be offset by having to run the charger many more hours.

Real bummer. I wonder what in the world is consuming that much power and where all that energy (presumably heat) is going.

It's an interesting guess. There were a few threads people suspecting the wireless charge mat. At least sometimes when I have gone out to the truck (without my phone) the truck definitely seems to be running some mechanical equipment (fan? pump?). What I know about charing large batteries, running the HVAC to cool the pack would make sense. But the charge summary says this isn't so. In any case it's a shame we are left to just guess.

I have proximity key disabled. This is my charge session last night, very typical in my experience.

Totally disabled or just the "disabled at home" setting?

Totally disabled. My Rivian doesn't know where my home is, thinks I live in the forest.

Check out Juicebox? Worse case it has an API and I could whip up a script to do it.

This is basically the same as the OPs, his charge session was twice as long.

Yes, I'd really love to see that down to 200-300 like Leaf, etc. It makes a huge difference with 120v charging. Not the 500-600s seen here.

Yep. Agreed I suspect that is mostly just what those low voltage electronics will use whether charging or not
