Thanks for bring this to light in the 1st place! I just had a mobile SC visit to address a trim issue, but told the guys about forum findings and they seemed taken back a bit…one even owns a R1T…so we all ran several test break-in scenarios and none sounded an alarm (hint: there isn’t one) some flashing signal lights…but that’s it! And just as previously stated, the truck basically says what can I do for you! (Gives access to EVERYTHING!)

I asked them if they had heard rumblings of this issue…nope! Well, they have now! I told them about the forum discussions and the need to address this at the highest level…ASAP!
So I figured out a way to trigger the panic via api and all it did was flash the lights. I didn't think much of it other than it just not being properly implemented but this comment made me think this is all related. Panic (alarm) is just completely broken. To confirm it I just tried to trigger the panic mode by holding the lock button on the fob and sure enough the lights flash and that's it. I even got a notification on the app that the alarm was triggered so the truck thought the alarm was triggered but it most definitely was not.

I'm going to submit this to service. This better be fixed in the next release.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't really see much value in an audible alarm system. It doesn't deter theft, so it's no different than an app notification to tell you someone broke in. Of the two issues, the bigger one is what is accessible when it's broken into. If alarms were a deterrent, then no one would care about the accessibility issue, or go to lengths to not leave valuable things in the vehicle or leave them in plain sight.

The audible alarm might wake you up where an app notification might not.
I guess the last place I'd expect to be broken into is at home, but I live in a different neighborhood than some I suppose.

Still don't think that changes the outcome. I'm not going to intervene because it's not worth it. Guess I could try to gather evidence, even though that is fruitless also. Our PD has issued statements to not call 911 for property crime, because they can't be bothered with it (unless the perpetrator is still onsite and restrained by some miracle).

Thanks for this, i've been shouting it from a mountain and it seems like no one at Rivian is listening. Hopefully this moves it along a bit more.

Ok, I did some extensive testing and my car has this problem and more.

My truck does not appear to have an audible alarm under any circumstance.

I get into truck and sit on floor. Windows up. Wife locks doors with keyfob outside of truck. All phone keys disabled. After 30 seconds the truck hibernates and all screens go off.

I wave my arms around - the Rivian does not appear to have an interior motion sensor because nothing happens.

Next, I open the passenger door while still seated on the floor. It takes a double pull to open it. No alarm goes off and no exterior lights flash. The screens turn on allowing me to access the frunk, tonneau, gear tunnel, etc.

When activating panic mode on the key fob, I get amber lights flashing on exterior, but nothing audible.

What gives? Does the R1T not have an alarm system?
Yep - no audible alarm. Press and hold lock button is the distress/alarm. Flashing lights only. WOW.

Not sure what else we could do without @Administrator making it a sticky or something.

I did go ahead and post it in other places just now to get more exposure but unfortunately doing so will make it WAY more public, but at this point it needs to be acknowledged by Rivian.

I have suspected that the alarm doesn't work at all. I have this video of a guy pushing on my door handle and trying to open my door in a parking garage and no alarm goes off.

For Clarity - the rest of the event videos showed he was one of 2 guys clearly interested in Rivian and talking for awhile at the rear of the truck before he did this when he got in his car - I don't think he was trying to break in - but he is an idiot for trying to open the door and look.

I have sent in a support ticket and appreciate the work of @Khaneric boosting awareness!

I don’t believe for a second that they weren’t aware of this upon launch. This is flat out ridiculous in my opinion. Whoever for second doesn’t think a LOUD ass alarm going off isn’t going to make a difference is high or ignorant. Rivian needs this fixed in the next OTA period.

Just spoke with Reddit user WassymRivian and he informed me this issue has been identified and addressed in the next OTA so that's good to hear.
Good, keep making noise.....

Even if he wasn’t trying to break in, it’s kind of a jackass move.
