I saw a R1T in Waco…couldn’t make Austin to Dallas without a stop. The standard R1T doesn’t have enough range for those of us that travel 200 + miles or tow. Max pack is a necessity for me. Texas/Arkansas/Oklahoma still don’t have adequate EVSE availability.

This is true, and a fact of current EV charging "away from home".

No one is going to build out a Tesla-like Charging Network anytime soon, so range is important.

Incidentally, my current pickup truck has about 1000 km of range and maybe 2/3 of that towing... who knew that was just being excessive? I'd love to be gassing up every 1.5 to 2 hours (who wouldn't/)

An EV that can get 300 miles of range doesn't require you to "gas" up every 1.5 to 2 hours (who said 1.5?). My point was that if you followed the rule of thumb that you take a 15 minute break for every 2 hours of driving, you would be very close to replenishing the battery charge you used in that 2 hours while you are taking your rest break.

Meanwhile - your 1000 km truck and it's 18 MPG combined rating (7.5 metric tons of C02 per year on average) is part of the reason why we are in the climate crisis we are in and why Rivian is trying to get as many ICE trucks off the road as they can.

So towing a trailer on the flat cuts the range by 50%. Add grades and mountain passes 66%

So using your logic, stopping every hour to charge assuming that you an find a charger in the mountains, should be the norm??

Also consider the fact that on my recent trip there are no pull-through chargers so almost every time, I'd be uncoupling a 7,000 lb trailer and making sure it's safe before charging.

Keeping in mind that you are going down to 20% and changing to 80% each time. So a four hour trip would essentially require four charging stops.

There are definitely people that want the max pack for their use cases. But how many compared to how many standard configuration trucks that Rivian has orders to fill?

This is all speculation but it was pretty clear the Explore edition was going away and for the same reasons that went away, it's likely the MaxPack will as well. They need to streamline production to as few variables as possible.

I find this thread useful as tool to poll potential owners feelings towards the Max Pack option.

It's interesting to see the varied intended uses people have in mind for a max pack equipped R1T.

Bottom line, some need the max pack if they are going to replace their current work truck, with an electric truck. But if you only buying a truck for the looks, Ect.. and trying to force your opinions, because you don’t need the range, there are better alternatives out there with better efficiency.

Meanwhile - as I said in my original post - many use cases can work with a 300 mile range and a smaller battery unless....you are towing.
