I've been driving my R1T for 3 weeks now, and have been keeping track of things I'd like to see changed. Most are software and UI things that could be fixed, but there are a few hardware changes that I'm recording in case someone from Rivian sees the list and is interested in my opinion. :p

The 36 things that I think should be changed for a better R1T:

1-Strong WantSafetyCannot drive with the door openI occasionally want to drive very slowly with the driver door not fully closed. Like I'm pulling the boat out of the water, and I cannot get the door to "fully close" because of the water. When I put the car in drive and push the accelerator, don't mother me and put the vehicle back in park. Let me go 3 MPH, and brake and scream at me if I exceed that. Don't tell me that you know best, just because you're scared I might hurt myself.

This should be a 0-REQUIRED. What if the sensor has failed, or the door is broken and won't close all the way. We should get at least the 13mph allowed with the frunk open to drive out of wherever our truck may be currently located. This is a necessary safety allowance.

FYI the Tunein Issue is not a rivian issue, it's a Tunein one. It does it on ALL their apps, even the website.

I find it especially alarming that the R1T has blind spots where I also have blind spots. That is something I was especially looking forward to eliminating with a modern BEV.

Just for clarity, you will never be using Driver+ on surface streets, only on pre-mapped highways like GM's SuperCruise or Ford's BlueCruise systems. That will only be ACC, and personally, I want to see the ability to fall back to traditional dumb cruise control when ACC isn't available. The distinction with ACC vs Driver+ is that ACC should never give anyone any notion that it is aware of traffic control devices. ACC can and will happily bring you to a stop behind a stopped vehicle, but it doesn't know that as soon as that car moves off you shouldn't resume...and as pure ACC it shouldn't either. Pretty much every car with ACC behaves that way. The only systems I'm aware of that does anything more advanced is Tesla's FSD, which itself behaves like a drunk teenager learning how to drive.

Driving into the sun this morning ACC couldn't be engaged because of "glare on the camera". Even when I was later in the shade. Even when I was later driving away from the sun. I, too, was thinking it'd be nice to fall back to standard cruise control, but no idea how you clearly convey to the driver that it's not going to slow down as it approaches the vehicle ahead.

Pretty much every car with ACC behaves that way.
Well, FWIW my wife's 2019 Audi Q7 has ACC + LKA available as independent features, based on perception (not mapping). Turning both on does a great job driving around town of keeping within the lane and not running into the car in front of you. It does not perform stoplight or stop sign detection, but I've also never experienced the "launch into the intersection" problem perhaps only because it disables ACC quite quickly when you come to a full stop.

Thanks for that! I wondered if that was the case, then assumed it could not possibly be true. This is my first/only usage of TuneIn.

Wait.......what? Are you saying the R1T cannot detect vehicles in your blind slot? ?

This is a 100% deal breaker for me buying an R1T. I'm not going back to 1997, to a vehicle without blind spot monitoring.

Can someone confirm what they are talking about here?

Rest your left foot on the brake and use your right foot on the accelerator like normal. The truck wont auto-park because it can tell you didn't just accidentally leave it in drive while attempting to exit.

It's pretty well known the R1T has traditional blind spot monitoring, there's lights that turn on in each side mirror much like several other vehicles. The post you're replying to may mean the actual vehicle is designed in such a way that it has blind spots.

I'm glad that I'm not the only one to be annoyed by reflections in the mirror stalks. Was thinking about getting some tiny pieces of matte PPF to wrap them. Should be easy fix.

When I slowly pass a vehicle on my left or right side and look in the cluster, I see, consecutively.
  1. A vehicle rendered in 3D in front of the truck.
  2. That vehicle disappears from the cluster.
  3. Later, the yellow warning symbols appear off the rear bumper indicating danger on that side.
When the vehicle next to me is in a particular location, the cluster does not show any indication that there is a vehicle on that side. When performing this test, I did not look at the yellow light in the mirrors to see if it was illuminated, but my gut says that I only see this light in conjunction with the yellow warning circles off the rear bumper in the cluster. I will need to re-check this behavior while also checking the mirrors to be certain.

No idea what they are talking about. My blindspot warning works fine in my R1T. Just like any other car with the Warning light on the side view mirror. Also, of course, audible and visual alarm on the dash if you were to try to veer in to someone.
