Broken tonneau, cracked roofs, pooling water, keys not working....taking delivery now seems like a joke.

I'm continuing to read an over abundance of messages about Rivians being delivered with broken tonneau, cracked roofs, keys not working, and a laundry list of other issues. Why on gods green earth would you accept that trash product?

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but we look like dummies to outsiders. No person, buying any brand, should accept garbage broken products on day one.

How desperate do you need to be to accept delivery on a truck with a broken power tonneau on day 1? That's ludicrous. Even then, most of you know things are going to break and factor that in your purchase. Beta testing at its finest...cool if you want in on that. "I'm using my tonneau cover as little as possible"...that sounds idiotic.

I'm reviewing with my guide today and may postpone this thing for another 12 month. I have no probelem just keeping my current car. Rivian needs to get their shi* together.
After I got my 2019 Kia Niro Launch Edition EV, I got on forums for that product...boy, did it look like I bought a lemon. In my 3 years of ownership, two issues that required service intervention: top off the main battery coolant (they don't sell the needed coolant to end users) and recharge the AC stuff (not sure what's being used these days, not freon, I think). The heat in the Niro EV forums is largely gone now.

I've had my R1T for about 6 months now; yeah, a couple problems: a sensor repaired by mobile service and the wire harness/windshield wiper issue Rivian caught. Other than that, perfection. Please delay your purchase, my son is waiting in line...

I can't get my moonroof to open. Also Apple CP isn't working.

I could do this all day.

By cracked roof you mean the one where the woman borrowed another persons R1T and stood on the glass... Holy crap a glass panel couldn't support the weight of a woman at, I would guess, is 150lbs....

Are there issues, sure thing. Are they as bad as you are stating, definitely not. But if you are that concerned please cancel immediately so I can move up a space in line.

Just cancel your order and leave the forum. You'll be happier than spending time writing all these threads about hypothetical problems with a truck you haven't purchased yet.

to each their own.
Its kind of like the news media they only things that seem to get attention are the negative and chaotic.

on a positive note since most seem to only complain and a few talk about how great it is.

I received mine in March and now at 10,000 miles. I have had very few problems panel alignment, door rubbing, one hard reboot that had to be done by mobile tech and none of them major. Service has been great a lot more responsive than any other I have worked with. All other well established brands and vehicles I've owned have all had issues that went in for warranty some small some major (engine replacement on one) and most of the time handled poorly with an attitude like they where doing me a favor. Rivian has been complete opposite for me, apologetic working to make it right, and very attentive with great communication.

The truck is amazing flat out amazing. my wife was against going EV on anything at first. She is so glad we have have it now. The truck is so versatile cruising down the highway, sports car like in the mountains, off-roading is incredible for a truck. caring gear no problem, towing a trailer is like what trailer (except mileage), and a sleeper those unfamiliar on the road are amazed when you keep up with them. Sorry Lambo to slow and yes I beat you with all terrain tires, that was a funny experience in Malibu. The guys expression was priceless even after the third round, he just couldn't get the Lambo (Gallardo) to keep up.

With some of these issues (which I don't think are really abnormal compared to other manufactures) I'm glad to Beta test, it has been a blast and I would do it again.

My wife is curious about the R2 and hopes its a smaller platform for herself.

BTW my tonneau has worked since day one and still working. just nobody goes around posting "mine still works" for zero reads.

I'm just a data point but I don't have a broken tonneau, cracked roof, keys that don't work or a laundry list of broken things on my truck. Have been enjoying it so far.
Yep, me too. You might want to consider a natural bias: People who have stuff break tend to complain about it. People whose stuff is working just fine don't tend to log onto a forum and say, "Hey, FYI, all is well." This tends to make people reading these forums think that all experiences are bad experiences. I've had my truck since March 15th. Haven't had any problems. I'm sure I will have a problem at some point, but all good so far.

Are you asking me to not share my concerns and observations? I'm insane for it? ?
It's good to be critical of anything you buy, especially when purchases become more expensive.
I keep the emotions out of any purchase and don't fall in love with a product either. Enjoy for any experience it brings you, but nothing more.

My experience:
  • 2018 Chrysler Pacifica - entire entertainment system not functioning at delivery and the outdoor temp showed °C until the entire system was flashed
  • 2017 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited - water leaked into cargo area when using automatic carwash
  • 2016 MINI Cooper - speedo is +2 mph
  • 2016 Chevy SS (Holden Commodore) - driver's seat heater didn't work at delivery (common issue) and there was a connector replaced under warranty that was poorly designed from the factory and would corrode over time causing power steering to fail
  • ...skipping a bunch of cars but I can't remember them all
  • 2005 Cadillac CTS-V - the rear differential was so poorly designed the rear end would literally come off the ground during hard acceleration tearing the diff apart over time
I could keep going, but I'm bored. Most cars have at least some issues in design and manufacturing. I anticipate some issues with this vehicle just like almost every other one I have ever owned. Some will be big and some will be small.

This will be the quickest and most capable vehicle I have ever owned. When it breaks, I will get it fixed. While I have it in my possession - it will be AWESOME. If I'm wrong then I will sell it and get something different. Why worry?

On your point of postponing delivery, I'm curious how far they would let you bump out your order and retain your pricing. I would imagine that would have limitations.
I think Rivian should be canceling reservations on people that have the price advantage and say "not yet" when the guide asks them to finalize their configuration for production.

I don't agree with this only because there are tons of folks legitimately waiting on rivian for Max pack, manual tonneau, things that have been mentioned since the onset of the brand.

You could simply say, I'm waiting for max pack, tonneau, etc and they should legitimately respect that.

You are an early adopter of technology, very different. I have been in tech my entire career and used literally some early products from the largest companies on the planet that were badly broken. Very common in tech. I think people need to start thinking about Rivian as a technology platform focused on transportation, vs. transportation with a technology package...

I also think they'll likely get better, but we'll see...remeber: v1.0 company, v1.0 product, in a v1.1 industry of EVs, in a v10.0 personal transportation market including ICE vehicles - there is going to be some friction ;)

This guy is just trolling every forum with essentially the same posts - "You guys are all nuts for buying these terrible Rivian's with all their problems".

Probably a good one for the ignore list.
