took delivery of R1T 2 days ago. while i am still in awe, what potential issues would you recommend to pay attention to rationally?
at the moment, it pulls to the side a little bit and has lots of weights attached to the wheels.
thanks!

"lots of weights attached to the wheels" is not a concern.

Have you owned a vehicle before this? Not being nasty, just trying to see where you are starting from.
Look at any of the cars in your driveway, or out on the street... every single one has weights on every single wheel without exception... it's a necessary evil due to the tires being rubber which just isn't balanced 100% perfectly. And, whenever you get new tires, those weights have to be removed and new ones will be applied in the positions needed to balance the new tire.

"lots of weights".. the larger/heavier the wheel & tires, the more weight could be needed to correct imbalanced conditions. Nothing abnormal there.

Pulling? Check your tire pressure, different pressure between the right and left front tries is the most common cause of pulling. If the pressure on both is equal, then your truck is out of alignment (which, unfortunately seems rather common on the R1T's) which can also be corrected fairly easily.

If everything else on the truck is good, you got a keeper!!

Also, keep in mind... if you return the vehicle- Rivian is under no obligation to sell you a replacement vehicle at the pre March prices unless you negotiate that prior to the return and have it in writing.

If you're really set on returning it... why not just flip it for a quick $20K profit vs. returning it and make nothing? You waited over a year for it.. get paid for your time.

Thank you, @NY_Rob . Yes, have another vehicle with similar weights but was not sure those were added to the new one or after some time. All good advice, very much appreciated!

I'd pay attention to serious issues/defects that are hard or impossible to fix.

Misshapen panels or paint defects are hard to remediate, I've found several dust nibs in mine (in clear so it doesn't show as harsh as under base coat but it shows when wrapped over), I may have asked for another one on second thought but with the tax credit expiration looming (for me) it wasn't worth tempting fate.

Pulling to the side is fixable with a toe link adjustment (easy), wheel weights are probably because someone didn't line up the tire correctly when they put it on the wheel (there's often a light spot you should try to line up with the valve/tpms) , but also because it's an 80+lb wheel, as long as it balances fine with the weights its a non issue. I wouldn't be bothered by that.

Mine has had an alignment twice and still pulls to the right pretty hard all various speeds. Even slow in parking lots the wheel prefers to go to the right. Others have complained about alignment so you're not the only one. Rivian told me they are doing software update to address this, which I'm not sure will be good for the tires.

Or... they determined the existing software causes it to pull to the right, and updating it will be better for the tires.....

Let's hope that's the case. :fingerscrossed:

Mine pulled some during the first 500 miles. Has gotten better. Maybe tire tread wearing a bit has helped and tires had some unevenness during manufacturing? I’ve heard that one motor a tiny bit out of sync can cause this too…so maybe that is how it is being fixed via software.

At least in my case, putting the car in neutral results in the same pull to the right.

Not aware of being able to put an R1 into neutral while in motion…do you mean when you are using regen? In regen mine would track straight…

Hold the stalk up and it will go into neutral.
