All this talk about the spares not being included is making people paranoid.

*Seriously, could any other vehicle use this? I think even the Ram with the wheels which can be made to work on a Rivian have hubs too wide to mount a Rivian wheel.
The Ram wheel hub bore is 77.8mm
Rivian wheel hub bore is 64.1mm

You can use a Ram wheel on a Rivian with a hub ring adapter, but you can't use a Rivian wheel on the Ram because the Rivian wheel bore is too small to fit over the Ram hub.

Yeah, that’s what I was trying to say in my very poorly worded sentence. My mom is a retired English teacher and she’d give me grief for writing that.

It would be more of a deterrent than a solution
It's a BIG deterrent! I rotated all 5 wheels/tires a couple of weeks ago and tried removing the spare without removing the cross-bar (to save time!) and ended up removing the crossbar in the end.

It’s too bad there isn’t an accessory hasp or similar you could pass a gear guard cable through. Then that area would stay secure even with the tailgate down and without Rivian having to modify the release handle.
That's a good idea.

Is there anywhere in the compartment/frame, to loop a cable+lock (that's under the cover)?
Can the gear guard cable stretch across the bed to go through the tie down on the opposite side and back? Maybe that could keep the cover from opening far enough?

If you’re that worried make your own tonneau cover. Ten minutes with a piece of plywood and you have a new tonneau cover. A little more time and money with some black starboard and you have a factory looking tonneau cover.

Don’t over think securing it, even the best deadbolt on a door is only as strong as the pain of glass in the window.

If someone wants a wheel and the spare is to hard to get, they will just take it off the truck.

On the bright side, if you’re in a less-than-stellar location there’s no gas to siphon and no catalytic converter to steal.

Friends have had their spares stolen off Jeeps. I have always run a cable lock through the spares on my Jeeps to discourage the lazy thieves. I had my tonneau open for a few days and I wasn't real worried about it even though I knew about the entrapment release. Then somebody posted on Facebook they had one stolen. Damn.
