The Purge spare tire edition! All this talk about the spares not being included is making people paranoid.
The Ram wheel hub bore is 77.8mm*Seriously, could any other vehicle use this? I think even the Ram with the wheels which can be made to work on a Rivian have hubs too wide to mount a Rivian wheel.
Yeah, that’s what I was trying to say in my very poorly worded sentence. My mom is a retired English teacher and she’d give me grief for writing that. The Ram wheel hub bore is 77.8mm
Rivian wheel hub bore is 64.1mm
You can use a Ram wheel on a Rivian with a hub ring adapter, but you can't use a Rivian wheel on the Ram because the Rivian wheel bore is too small to fit over the Ram hub.
Yes, but only with a cable that could be cut with a pair of nailvlippers .Is there anywhere in the compartment/frame, to loop a cable+lock (that's under the cover)?
It's a BIG deterrent! I rotated all 5 wheels/tires a couple of weeks ago and tried removing the spare without removing the cross-bar (to save time!) and ended up removing the crossbar in the end.It would be more of a deterrent than a solution
That's a good idea. It’s too bad there isn’t an accessory hasp or similar you could pass a gear guard cable through. Then that area would stay secure even with the tailgate down and without Rivian having to modify the release handle.
Can the gear guard cable stretch across the bed to go through the tie down on the opposite side and back? Maybe that could keep the cover from opening far enough? Is there anywhere in the compartment/frame, to loop a cable+lock (that's under the cover)?
Sure. But how many of those had a spare that was worth $800+? ??I've had vehicles with externally mounted spares that were readily easy to steal, and have never had one stolen.
And mine has locking lug nuts on it for same reason. At least slow someone down...Sure. But how many of those had a spare that was worth $800+? ??
On the bright side, if you’re in a less-than-stellar location there’s no gas to siphon and no catalytic converter to steal.Don’t over think securing it, even the best deadbolt on a door is only as strong as the pain of glass in the window.
If someone wants a wheel and the spare is to hard to get, they will just take it off the truck.
