Do we know of there any point to a larger drive size? On Teslas the dash cam just runs in a 1 hour loop and overwrites the old footage so there’s no point in a 512gb or 1tb drive.
Short of Rivian coming out with announcement, we won't know until the update drops. I never looked into this further with Tesla and didn't realize it only looped 1 hour. I guess my 1TB drive in there is a waste lol.

I have an old seagate wireless plus external hard drive that I was thinking of using. Unfortunately it's not usb C but the old USB A adapter. I'm not much of a tech guy so I was wondering if I got 90 degree adapter for USB 3.0 to USB C would work for the gear guard video?

FAT32 format fails as 512GB is too large a partition. My drive was formatted with "ExFAT," but of course, that doesn't work. So, Rivian says use "at least 128GB" and requires FAT32 formatting - an oxymoron, so to say as there is only a small range of sizes that meet both requirements..... Pretty disappointing...

What other non third party solutions are there?
I'm using a 256gb Samsung Enduro formatted to FAT32 using EaseUS FAT32 Formatter.

Interesting. I was able to format a 2TB Samsung T7 Shield to FAT32 in < 30 seconds on my MacBook Pro. I also uploaded ~500 GB of music in <5 minutes in anticipation of future USB audio. These are pretty impressive little drives.

Temp installation with stuff I had hanging around: 256Gb M.2 SSD from a laptop in USB-C enclosure. When Rivian supports USB music I’ll revisit this.

Tried formatting the windows way, failed once after an hour, then tried a 2nd time. Samsung card got up to 120*F by the time it got to 95% then failed again.
Thanks @kozak79 for EaseUS, that was much better, or at least seems promising at 54% completed now.

This was all for my Samsung ProEndurance 128gb

I, successfully and quickly formatted my 512GB MicroSD (that failed via the Windows cmd process), on my Mac - using the ”Disk Utility”. Select drive, click “erase” select FAT and *BAM*. Done!

No 3rd party gobblygook.

Ok so I'm not all that great with technology. I want to upgrade my HDD in my computer would I be able to use my old SSD? By old it's like 2 years old. Would I need some sort of case for it to plug it in? Right now it just plugs right into the motherboard of my computer.

Well sure thats a good way too, but the cost of buying a Mac would really cut into my cheap 128 vs 256gb savings ;)

I should have asked a friend or waited for the in car method. But after a few hours of humming I'm have 128gb of old school FAT32! Now as soon as my adapter/reader arrive tomorrow I'll be able to test it out properly.

So I was going to go with the micro SD card in the adapter, but I couldn't ignore the great sale they have right now on those Samsung drives. Seems like the same warranty as the endurance card. I also like how it looks cleaner without the card sticking out the side of the adapter (I know, I'm damaged)

Pick with some of our crap in the console That's previously requested...
