Timing from R1 Shop -> Delivery?

Just got my delivery invitation email! I’ll pick up in Portland next Tuesday. Unfortunately that was their first available time.

It does take a good amount of time... almost that full hour scheduled. 3 minutes to sign docs and hand over checks in my case... then 45-50 minutes to inspect, walk around explaining ext features, setting up phones and then going through each button and screen functions. I already knew 75% of the info, but my wife knew about 5%. I made her go through the whole speel...

After waiting nearly 3 years for my R1S I was granted access to the store. Within a few days the perfect configuration came through. I quickly pulled the trigger, completed the financing, insurance, and so on.

I received the VIN (7PDSGABL1NN001226) and everything moved very fast.

One week later I was told my R1S was in internal inspection and that could take 2 weeks.

Two weeks later, with no updates, I check in and was told that the vehicle had failed inspection and that a new R1S was being built and I would have a new delivery in 1-4 months.

This was the final straw. After too many misleading statements, missed deadlines, and little to no communication I have canceled my order. 2 years and 10 months for nothing. I really wanted this car and I really want Rivian to succeed. If my experience is the norm then I fear it will not end well. Trust is a fragile thing. Rivian has lost mine for good.

If anyone has a way of tracking what happened to that vehicle I would love to know.

Sorry to hear that, would have been nice if you could have held on. Did you have a guide? Could they not help?

I had a vin assigned to me December 28th, about a week later It was pulled. I contacted my guide he said it failed final inspection and could not be delivered. He looked at available vehicles, told me he saw a lot of LG available at that time, I was really set on ElCap so went to the Costa Mesa SC and compared the 2 colors. I got back to my guide and told him I would take ElCap/Bright22s/BM or LG/Dark22s/BM. A couple of days later he said he had both which did I want, took the LG dark 22s. Picked it up in Normal on 1/26.

It is an early vin (1663) but I’m very happy with it.

What happened/happens if you do find issues during walk around? Do they make notes, hold and fix or just tell you to open a ticket and schedule a later visit?

I did/do have a guide, but they haven't been all that helpful. I'm sure they are a nice person, but nothing like you've described.

In my case, all I found was a small ding in the rear passenger door frame. No paint damage or scrape, so probably occurred before paint or assembly. It doesn't bother me and my wife didn't notice, so I just had the guide take note of it during inspection, so incase I decide to make a claim with a service ticket, they know it was there before delivery. It's pretty small and I did have to check all the door frames to make sure it wasn't part of a weld point that shows up in all cars. Pointless dent removal would probably be easy.

I originally wanted a LG/FE, but was too late in the game discovering Rivian. I love the colors. Since it wasn't available any longer, I reserved (Sep '21) an Adventure R1T MB/FE maxpack with 20" dark rims. I received access to the R1T shop several weeks ago and reviewed it more than once a day. Lol. I kept holding out with the maxpack, but couldn't justify holding out for a little more added mileage @ $7k. Lo and behold, one day Launch Green started hitting in the R1T shop, but were all BM/OC interiors. I told myself the first LG/FE that hits I'm gonna lock. I don't care what kinda tires it's got on it. To my surprise, one was available Friday, 14 April and I locked it. It's got 22" brites on it. The next day, Saturday, the assigned agent called me from Norman and wanted to know if I could pick it up 28 April. So, within two weeks and I coulda picked it up. I decided to take my time doing the paperwork and getting the charger installed. Hey, I'm 65 years old. Lol. I live in the St. Louis suburbs, and have yet to see any Rivian in these parts except an R1T on a flat bed being hauled east. I pick it up 12 May and I am excited about getting my truck.

Congrats!!! I picked my config from the shop 9 days after you....so maybe I am 9 days out. Too bad there were not times available for this weekend. I bet you can't wait for Tuesday to come =)

Anyone have access to the R1 shop but never see one that you want, and end up having a VIN assigned for your initial configuration? How long between R1 shop access and VIN assignments?

Curious about those folks who've decided to purchase from the R1 shop rather than wait for their build - what's the typical timeline? I know the website says 6-8 weeks, is that about right?

I chose a vehicle from the shop on Wednesday night (4/26). Spoke to the Guide on Thursday who said it just came off the assembly line and should be 3-4 weeks if not sooner.

Just wondering since you say it just came off the line, was it a Launch and did it have an Off Road Package?

I have asked my CPA this question, I signed the binding agreement. I have not filed my 2022 return to wait until delivery so I don’t have to amend if I indeed get the 7500 in 2022. If not, I’ll file and get the 3750 in 2023.

I have asked my CPA this question, I signed the binding agreement. I have not filed my 2022 return to wait until delivery so I don’t have to amend if I indeed get the 7500 in 2022. If not, I’ll file and get the 3750 in 2023.

My CPA was behind and already filed an extension. Since I expect to take delivery in the next week or so, I figure we just do it before filing 2022 and not have to amend.
