I have the option to charge for free with a 5-20 outlet at my office building. I'd like to take advantage of the 33% extra current. Is there any way to use this with the mobile connector? The only options I see are 5-15 and 14-50, 5-15 will obviously work but not at the extra current the outlet affords.

Nope. Not with the Rivian occasional use EVSE. They could come out with a new plug (if they chose to do so) that would allow you to take advantage of (more of) the 20a.
I'm actually using my Tesla mobile charger with a 5-20 for this very reason. It's not much, but I get free 4m/h at work, which actually covers my commute.

Thanks. I put in a request that Rivian add additional adapters to the webshop, seems like quite a simple request.

I think I'll just put up with the 15 amp limit given buying an additional $600 charger would defeat the purpose of taking advantage of the free charging.

Just go buy a 16 amp EVSE off amazon for $110. Then you can just leave it at the office.

Buy this adapter (https://www.evseadapters.com/shop/e...ma-5-15p-5-20p-to-14-50r-120v-ev-adapter.html) and use your Nema 14-50 plug.

Then, dial down the charge setting inside the truck to 16A before you start charging. I would dial it down before you even plug it into the truck to make sure.

I would also test out the receptacle at 12A first to make sure it can even do that.
Assuming the factory evsc will do more than 12 amps at 120 volt, I would not want to rely on setting the vehicle properly for a charging method that will be regular and reoccurring. That's the kind of thing you do at a one time vacation rental not your daily charging spot.

It'll advertise 32A any time the 14-50 plug is in it.

Because the Rivian portable EVSE would still only draw 12A using that adapter. We were trying to figure out how to draw 16A.
An extra 4amp at 110v is miniscule charging this battery...probably an extra 1/3 mile per hour

Uh no. It is about 42% more charge actually going into the battery. It matters. And since we are being picky, North American household voltage has been at 120/240 volts for over a hundred years, not 110/220.

Ok then. Measure your receptacle voltage. I guarantee it’s less than 120. Where’d 42% come from? 12 to 16 amps is 33% more. Still minuscule difference charging at 120. Good luck!

The stock 5-15 adapter will pull 14 amps on a 20 amp circuit. That’s close enough it’s not worth the hassle or expense of buying a new EVSE.
