I asked to return my R1S within 2 days of delivery because of paint issues I discovered and Rivian did not object. They refund 100% of the cost of the vehicle (incl. taxes and fees) according to the repurchase agreement I signed. That said, I returned the car on 5/19 and I still haven't received a refund as of 6/18.
So if you financed it, you’re out at least one interest payment? Are they going to reimburse you for that?

In my first 1 or 2 days, I feet bouncing or sometime too stiff. But after several days, the truck seemed to have learnt and improved, much smoother. Seriously.

I’m honestly considering returning/ selling mine too! I was so excited for it but Im just not feeling it. A past of me wants to keep it because it’s electric and would help with my 137 mile daily commute. Then I start to analyze the overall vehicle and see how the fit and finish just isn’t there. I feel sorry for those buying these with post March 2022 pricing. I’ve been playing with the ride settings as I don’t like how it rides. I feel stiff option feels better than soft. How is that possible?! Im giving it a few more days before I figure out what I want to do. I guess I’ve been spoiled by my Range Rover.
Are you within 7 days also?

Ride is really harsh (one of the reasons I sold my M3 Comp a few years ago) and I can’t seem to find the right setting for it to be pleasant.
Ride is obviously something that depends on what you're used to. But I notice you have the 20" AT tires. I recently changed out mine for all-seasons (Michelin Defender LTX, same size) and the ride improved. That said, I thought the ride on the ATs was OK (though not great), so maybe that still won't get you where you want to be.

We’re on our 7th day.
Been debating since pickup if we should return it.
Cosmetic issues (panel alignment, hood, hatch).
Very heavy vehicle with imprecise steering feel (but at least straight and no shaking).
Ride is really harsh (one of the reasons I sold my M3 Comp a few years ago) and I can’t seem to find the right setting for it to be pleasant.
Throttle response in all purpose isn’t very impressive (better in sport).
I really like the overall idea of the vehicle. But I can’t seem to fall in love with it and seriously I can’t believe some people pay full price for these.
I really want to feel like a fanboy but I can’t.
We’ll probably keep it. Get it fixed (if they can). And see how we feel in a few months.
Apologies for the rant.
You have 20" AT tires... they don't typically yield great handling.

Would they let you exchange the vehicle or go back to the shop once you took delivery or the only option is to return it or flip it?

I'm on day three and loving the R1T...I'm a 23xxx vin. I just spent the day washing and waxing it (it's the best way to see imperfections while also being productive). In that time I only came across one small paint irregularity.

In my wholly unscientific observation, it seems there's more inconsistency in the R1S than the R1Ts...I wonder if Rivian just hasn't dialed in the S yet...
agreed. It seems like they’re having ramping issues on the S like they did on the T

My understanding is that they won't let you exchange or go back to the shop - either return for full refund, or sell it. Of course, I'm sure there will be the odd exceptions to the rule.

So it’s probably best to reject delivery in that case and get sent back to the shop or let them exchange for another factory build.

I’ve owned ten electric vehicles over twelve years and the Rivian is ranked #8 in reliability so far, ahead of only two horrific Tesla Xs (one a lemon). It may drop further over time, but I hope it doesn’t. Unlike the Teslas the doors seem to reliably open and close. For that I am grateful.

The R1S is significant because it is the first full size seven seat SUV (the Model X doesn’t count). That makes it worth the purchase. But it is not a great car. It isn’t even a good car. It is built pretty badly. It’s just the first in its market segment. That’s what is good about it. It’s first.
I consider it a great car

I think that's right if you see things at delivery that have you concerned. It's also my understanding that if you reject delivery you don't get sent back to the shop - you wait for your original configuration (at least per my guide; though there does seem to be a lot of variation in the information the guides give). Of course, that's different to cases like @Sevn86's, where he went to look at the car before delivery, found issues, and had then cancel that vehicle and be put back in the shop. I don't know of anyone that rejected at delivery and was put back in the shop - would be interesting to see if that's done.

No, they will not reimburse you for anything other than the purchase cost of the car. Interest payments, insurance payments, Uber rides or rental cars are your responsibility.

FWIW, when I returned my car, at no point did Rivian ask, how can we make this right? or are you interested in a replacement?

Our first electric, but not first suv. I'm going to go ahead and vehemently disagree with you. I've only enjoyed our range rover sport more than the R1S as it relates to fit, finish and build. It's better executed than our bmw X5 and Ford explorer platinum, and on the same level as my Denali HD truck. Most importantly, the wife loves it.
