I can't argue with anything you said, it's all completely correct. I'll just say, on a personal level, I hope they take care of the OP and get them a new Truck ASAP!

Also, this truck should have never pass QC from the factory.
So do I. In this situation it certainly seems like the right thing to do. Rivian decided to extend that early pricing to those of us lucky enough to get it so they should follow through on it even in that situation.

Offering him a bad truck or a more expensive truck is not right.

They would not let me even look at the vehicle prior to paying for it, even though it was sitting on the lot.

That sounded fishy to me so I walked away. It is really too bad because I was so excited for this truck after 3 years waiting.
Wait....what? How is that possible?

I rejected my first one. Went and saw it before delivery was scheduled and immediately reached out to my guide about how disappointed I was. She reached out to the SC and confirmed everything I shared with her. She then sent the request to her lead to have me unmatched. I was then put back in the shop 3 days later. Picked another one and decide to take delivery of it. This one has issues too and I hope the SC can correct them. The first available service date for me is August 2nd. I hope I’m not disappointed.

I inquired about the first one during my delivery and they said it’s at a body shop. They will add it to their fleet of loaners once it’s back.

My compass yellow R1T should arrive by train, in about 2 weeks now. I think I need a team of inspectors to find all the defects. Anyone that already has one want to help me find any defects?
Where are you located? ?

Let's not forget that Rivian did not have to honor pre 3/1/22 pricing at all. Arguably the company would be in much better shape had they held to their decision and taken their lumps and moved on.

And I say that as someone who would have likely been priced out of buying one if they did in fact do that....

Ford has raised Lightning prices at least 4 times since they started production and they don't even think twice about it.
Hmmm, I’m going to guess that people with more actual data than us forum browsers saw the impact of their decisions and went “oh shit” and reversed course. Put simply, it’s likely they saw the number of preorder holders that were cancelling were either large or on a bad trajectory and made the business decision to honor pricing (although one would be forgiven for looking at their inability to do basic QC and wonder if they’re able to make any sound decisions, but I digress).

I don’t believe if they would have just gotten away with “lumps” and felt they’d be better in the end that they would have done that. More interestingly, I would love to see a breakdown of pre-price increase sales vs post. Currently left to ponder if they’re still fulfilling mostly pre-price increase orders.

That is entirely possible. All I said was we don't know and probably never will.

Ford is losing Lighting preorders because $74k trucks are now $90k, which is pretty close to the leap that Rivian was making. They don't apologize - they just say it cost them more to make the trucks and raise the prices. They still have plenty of buyers and I believe Rivian would have too. They reversed course very quickly.

At least here in this forum most people did not immediately cancel. That doesn't mean they wouldn't have, but in my case I just decided to keep my order and see what happens.

Ah, if you were in Austin I could meet you there! There a ton of knowledge in this forum though. For us, the things we checked were:

- Paint (special attention to edges of doors, trunk, B pillars, and seams of windows)
- Panel alignment (special attention to lift gate & ensuring it doesn’t rub against the rear spoiler, charge door, passenger doors alignment, hood)
- Dashboard wood trim - look for cracks/splintering on the bends
- Dashboard “metal” trim - Easy to scuff, check entire length for scuffs
- Shipping damage - check front lights, light bar, and rear lights for signs of rock impact
- Wheels & calipers - check for damage, especially calipers where any chipped paint is especially noticeable
- Steering wheel - check that stitching is secure, not janky, no leather popping out

For me, paint stuff is always most critical because it’s also the easiest to get wrong when trying to fix it. Mechanical stuff can be fixed all day long with little to no visibility.

1 - Lightning is only a very small portion of their overall sales. They can take a bath in the short term. They have more products.

2 - Of course very few cancelled on these forums! That’s normal, as we all know. We represent the very small but loud minority, so I don’t think that data, or rather anecdote, can be used.

At any rate, the images that the OP shared made my jaw drop. I would have laughed anyone out the door even showing me a car like that unless they told me it was a process tester for builds. It’s so bad it’s comical, like clearly someone made a huge mistake. Sorry OP. ?

Agree 100%. They should do right by OP.

Thank you for getting back to me and giving me some guidance on receiving this baby. I do know a Dr. that received his almost a year ago. He lives about 10 miles away. I might ask him to come by and check mine out after it's long train ride.

This was exactly my thought process reading the thread. Almost like we need to hire one of these YouTubers to do an hour-long walk around before we accept it.

Can I ask what the photos are showing? Namely the two images that look like painted areas next to gloss black areas? is this near the glass roof?
I honestly need help with what part of the truck that is.
thanks

Paint Bubbling near a door, paint bubble on tailgate, paint defective on the roof top corner, some failed attempt of putting touch up paint to cover a door ding, damaged under carriage front bumper. I have more pictures. Again this post was just awareness.. mostly just at how Rivians response is meh.

Ford lightnings are piling up on dealer lots or at least they were in May. I looked at a Lariat and it was 90k MSRP. The interior materials I didn't feel matched the price tag. On the flip side I feel Rivian is more of a bargain....however same issue exists for both. The buyer for a 70-75k truck is not the same that will buy a 90-100k truck. With the lightning...40k buyers will not make that jump to 60k.

Will have to see how that shakes out. In the case of Rivian the R2 will allow them to get buyers looking in the all important 40-60k price range.
