Tool Kit?

What tools does everyone here have in their Rivian 1) at all times and 2) extra for a road trip? Screwdrivers? hammer? Wrenches? Pliers? Pry bar?

What size wrenches, sockets, and bits are most essential for a Rivian?

Bonus question: what do you keep the car tools in?

I’ve been updating my “trunk bag” that I hadn’t refreshed in 5-10 years. Already refreshed or upgraded some categories of things like tire repair, first aid, and dog gear (spare leash, water bowl, etc. but might need to think about dog-specific first aid…) And that big frunk is definitely making me think I want to add a nice tool kit to supplement the multi-tools I’ve had so far.

I keep a Pittsburgh tool set from harbor freight under the rear seats. Nice variety of tools, has come in handy helping others several times.

The entire under frunk storage on my truck is tools and its everything plus; brake clean, pb blaster, a jump pack, extra lights and headlamps, you name it. All kept in multiple Milwaukee soft bags.

I don't keep any tools. What I do keep are an assortment of ratchet straps, bungee cords, a tarp and my jack pucks. I drive a late model vehicle so I don't have to do roadside repairs. If I wanted to worry about that I'll drive a shit box and save the premium price of buying a new car every couple years.

Since that's what I do, its Rivian's problem if my truck breaks. I do carry the straps though because you never know what you're going to be moving or hauling in a truck. There is no point in having a truck without carrying these straps because it limits you on cargo without them. I also carry the jack pucks because if I did get a flat I don't expect others to have the correct pucks and I want to make sure they don't mess up my truck.

I keep this loaded with all basic tools (screw drivers, wrenches, sockets, pliers, zip ties, etc) and - while heavy - it takes up very little space with no rattle in the frunk lower area. Highly recommend this as a vehicle tool kit.

My truck is loaded with tools in the frunk and gear tunnel for my job. But for the truck itself, I would recommend T15 and T20 bits in a location you can access if the battery is completely dead. I went with this. Partially for the humor value. ?

To be fair, there’s much less chance than a traditional truck that if something does go wrong, you have a chance of fixing yourself roadside. So I just have this small ratchet set tucked away rather than carrying larger bags of tools around…

- I always have a multitool (Leatherman, preferably) that I daily carry. I also keep a Gerber in my truck in the off-chance I forget my Leatherman

0- Glass break with seatbelt cutter in a quick release attached to the door
1- Full size Spare tire kit
1a- Tarp
2- Interrobang Tonneau
3- The Rivian Charging kit
4- Ratchet Straps
5- Bungee Cords
6- EV Sportline Jack Pucks and socket
7- Paper towels and detailing cloth
8- Umbrella and poncho
9- Jacket
10- Mechanix Gloves
11- Moving blanket
12- Various lengths of USB-C cables
13- I added extra bandages (since there really weren't any 'standard' bandaids) to the FAK
14- Screen Cleaner
15- A pen and a sharpie

16- Just purchased a set of collapsible crates from Costco that will live in the frunk or gear tunnel (TBD)
17- At some point, I'll have an offroad recovery kit that will stay in the truck as well.

There's probably something I'm missing, but as of now, I figure anything else I run into isn't going to be an 'emergency' type situation and should wait until I get home...ideally anyway.

ah yes! Those Torx bits are a critical one! That's a perfect example of what I was hoping to get out of this, aside from general wisdom of the crowd. A set of screwdrivers doesn't do any good if you don't have the right bit!

My first tool addition was a Klein ratcheting screwdriver that does have T15 and T20, but those won't do me any good if I'm locked out. I've got a couple of hand tools that can use a hex bit in a pinch. Might throw one of those and a set of T15 and T20 into my EDC (and transfer to hiking bag as appropriate).

I had started to put together an Amazon shopping list for a kit to put in the hitch received, but this cheap kit might be a decent option. Don't want or need anything particularly nice hanging out in the hitch just for a maybe once in a lifetime emergency, right?

There are some other options that look like they've got the same stuff but in variants. But this one has all the essentials: a ratchet, a driver, a standard and deep 10mm, the right Torx bits, and a couple extensions. Think I might throw the pieces I need to get in the car in case of a 12V dud inside the hitch receiver and then put the rest of the kit in the frunk along with whatever other tools I decide I need in there.

I think it's T20 and T25 to get in the frunk. In addition to what some mentioned, I have some HF stuff in a soft tool bag. A folding x shaped lug nut wrench with several sizes (I tow), jump start box, pucks, tall bottle jack, ratchet strap for the cargo area (scuba tanks like to roll), plug kit, glue tread sidewall kit, cheapie basic 30 piece tool kit, 30' tow strap, soft and hard shackles, mechanix gloves, folding mini spade/pick and some real tools that I have double of from my bigger garage tool box. Probably some other stuff like a tt30ev and nacs adapter
