Not the first. Back in maybe April there was a multi-hour cloud issue that prevented many from accessing their vehicles with their Phone as a Key (PaaK). Most of us now carry a keycard in our wallets just in case.

Still yet to be seen if I actually have HVAC use because I left my truck last night with temperature control turned off because it wasn't needed. If this issue persists, it's going to get cold here again and I'll be very unhappy if I can't be warm. Similarly, it becomes a safety issue if you need to defrost the windows and have no access to that feature.
I don't recall the April issue - you can heat the car from your app.

I’ve said it before - for me, since the vehicle is drivable, it’s not about that. It’s a big annoyance, sure. But not the end of the world.

What I am frustrated about is having to deal with the service center. Rivian has a chance to impress and surprise us all, and I hope for that, but I’m planning for the worst case scenario. That is the real frustration, from someone who has yet to have a positive SC experience.

I drove my R1S this morning without infotainment. Worked just like the old Odyssey I had: it got me to and from where I needed to go. Didn’t need cameras, didn’t need nav, didn’t need engine telemetry. Just good old fashioned “turn around and look out the rear window” driving skills.
Cameras work for most.

For those of you who say the vehicle is drivable, how do you unfold the mirrors?

If you push on them hard enough will they safely unfold manually, or will they just break?

So when there were software updates you liked and worked well for you, did you credit the “overseas devs” piece of the puzzle?
I credit cohesive oversight when things go smoothly.

I am guessing Rivian has the ability to fix this problem OTA, but I think it's likely that they haven't tested this particular failure mode before. It's one of those things that shouldn't have happened on a mass scale.

I was lucky that I missed the notification as I apply as soon as an update is rolled out. My biggest fear for the company, which some others have expressed, is that the fix can't be rolled out OTA for one reason or another and requires a SC visit.

Wrong. Did you test this yourself or make it up? I just tested. You can PRE-HEAT from the app. If your climate was off it will revert to off once you get in. I just tested in my driveway and cold air from the fan is blowing after I get in. Others might have different experiences, but that’s not surprising considering the issue.

Man, overseas is not the problem. Ignorance of the world outside the US might be this dude's problem though.
I never said that overseas was the problem, but if you have different pieces being built in different places, and no cohesive oversight, this easily becomes the result.

They unfold as normal when I use my paak or card key
On my test drive around this block the morning the mirrors stayed folded the entire drive. :swear: To go on a real drive I need to figure out how to get them to unfold.

Auto unfold on unlock worked for me.

Lots of comments downplaying this issue and saying it’s safe and drives fine. I just called and support said “we are recommending people don’t drive the vehicle at this time.” So their direction is all over the place during 1on1 conversations and they actually have no clue if it’s safe to drive. No one has actually tested this fully. Plus, absolutely unsafe in many situations. What happens if you need to defrost? What happens if it’s 100+ degrees and you have a baby in the car? What if your wife was the last one to drive the car and now your mirror settings are off, but you drive it anyway? Etc. Has anyone tested DCFC yet? Is it drivable? Sure. Is it as safe to drive as it was 24 hours ago? it is not.

I’d also add that I’ve seen zero official Rivian announcements or reach outs. Yes, their head of SW posted something on his account on Reddit, but is that “official?” I was shocked that I woke up to no emails, nothing on their website or official social media. There is no fix yet and no ETA. It’s been over 12 hours and that is unacceptable. At this point they have a good idea of how this is probably going to play out (hours vs days, OTA vs service center) and they need to tell us so we can plan accordingly.

Yes, we all bought a car from a brand new company and expected growing pains. But I’ve seen no signs that they have handled this mistake well and we should be downplaying the severity. I said at the beginning that if i woke up to a fix I’d quickly forgive and forget and feel fine moving forward. Waking up to no fix and no official communication (let me know if i missed it) is not great.
I think there should be status alerts and updates on the app and email on file not requiring a huge wait with CS. Also should have a status website
