I used the printed part from EV amp

Phone Mount Dash Anchor for Rivian R1T & R1S - Anchor + 25mm/1in Ball
  • Configuration:
+ rRAM parts + Apple MagSafe charger .
  • the printed wedge from OpenEV snapped and broke -the EV amp has a friction screw and is better

How is the set-up holding up? Did you orient the "hook" up under the dash leather or down behind the wood? Is either the wood or leather lifting? This seems like a nice clean system, especially if you don't need charging. Thanks
It’s behind the wood and holding up well, no issues whatsoever. There is a sweet-spot where it’s tight enough but not lifting the leather. It’s powered from the 12v under the dash. If you don’t have that, there are options to get power from the diagnostic port.

normally my iPhone is in a Nomad leather case with a cover that contains cards etc so during daily driving I do not use the mount but on longer trips I take the phone out of the case and it does stay mounted

Here is my customized phone mount. Found a flat rubberized plate of which I bent into an "L" shape and wedged it between the top dash panel. Superglued the mag charger onto it and ran the wire down to the 12v adapter socket

Oh man, nice you have a 12v. Most of us don't

None at all. Tons of people have a setup just like this.

Also - there is an updated version that we now sell which raises the mounting location up and (maybe more importantly) to the right, basically making this a non-needed item.

More details here: https://opensourceev.com/products/phone-ball-mount-evo

The reviews so far on it are really, really, really good. It's the only one like it in the market.

Hey man,

I ordered 2 of your phone ball mount EVOs, and I've send 2 communications via your website about how 1 of them had the plastic deform when installing it. The black plastic is on the verge of cracking, it's turned white.

Anyhow, have you received my messages? My order #4618.

Also, on the unit I did manage to mount, it seems to still be able to wiggle up and down (not side to side). How are you guys getting it to not move (esp w/ a heavy phone)?

Hi Byz - I've responded to both you ticket from earlier today, your PM on here, and to the ticket that you previously submitted (also same day, last week) I just need to know some additional details to process a replacement. I've recently tweaked the design to make it more robust during installation, and I 100% replace items that fail during installation.

It shouldn't wiggle at all unless you have a very large phone with a very large case on it. If it does, you might want to try a slightly different angle.

Keep in mind that the ball install should be snug, not overly tight. There is zero need to wrench it down.

I'd suggest responding to the ticket that you put in, not the PM here due to how frequently I'm here.

Finally completed the power runs yesterday.

Everyamp Mounts 17mm ball with two Spigen MagSafe 30w chargers usinga USBC buck converter fed from a fuse tap on the drivers fuse block, since like most newer builds I don’t have a 12v socket.

Was excited to get my open source ev left side mount kit but unfortunately the very small tabs on the back of the 17mm ball broke during install. The rear part that goes behind the dash/ near A pillar also doesn’t sit/ latch well. I would push down on it but it just doesn’t want to stay. Waste of money and now I’m back looking for a new mount. Great concept just wish they didn’t use 3D printed plastic and instead was made with something stronger

Have you reached out to us on this?

Rivian seems to have some wide tolerances with the top of the dash that leads to what you see. There is a replacement part that we send out for free when this is reported.

https://opensourceev.com/pages/contact-us

Edit:

It looks like you reached out about 90 minutes before your post. I've since responded and created a replacement order for the longer part.

I printed the V1 of that mount myself - and it’s working great. You really need to push the a-pillar out of the way to secure the rear bit behind the dash. When I pull my phone off the MagSafe mount I’ll shift the front of the mount a bit, but when the phone is in place it’s rock solid. So maybe I have three phone mounts now… so what are you gonna do about it?! ?

I printed but have not yet assembled the V2 like you have in your image.

Thanks to @RWerksman for being an awesome maker and sharing their models!

Thanks @Polar

FYI - This entire setup is available for free on Printables, including the longer bit for use in vehicles that need it. Everything that I've designed for the Rivian -- literally everything -- has been publicly posted for free personal use.

One thing I do want to note is that OpenSource EV (Riviparts prior) was created because so many people reached out to me saying that didn't have a 3D printer and asked if I would be willing to print and sell them one. That was, and is, the only reason it exists.

FDM printing isn't the way to go for these parts. There are vendors that will print the parts in nylon which will be the most durable solution. That is most likely what I will do, or just design my own personal copy of the everyamp mount and print it for myself.
