Its already priced in the high end of the market they are targeting, I think the new quad will just take over where the old quad left off. Most of these improvements will reduce the material cost to make each vehicle, especially removal of the Bosch supplied motors.
It's a slap in the face to say we just made significant advances to reduce manufacturing cost so now we are going to charge you more.
They have dual motor performance for people who are more price conscious but still want a fast vehicle. There's definitely some room for them to move up-market with a higher end trim but it absolutely won't be their top seller, and they won't intend it to be. Plenty of people keep saying "It's already fast enough for me" and those people aren't the market they are after here.

I would be shocked to see so many upgrades in a "refresh." Because of price point and tax rebates, I plan on holding onto my R1T for awhile. BRING ON THE R2!

1000hp is a toggle switch and maybe a few tweaks structurally. 1200hp will require some significant engineering changes to make sure a whole lot of sh*t doesn't break when you punch it.
IDK if that's true Munroe said that the R1 is very overbuilt now. Perhaps their initial design had this kind of force built in already. Torsional rigidity is pretty good on the R1s for off-roading and whatnot, so I don't think they are too far off structurally for 1200hp

Yup. They are after people like me who don't want a Cybertruck out there that's faster than I am. I probably wouldn't want delivery until 2025, but that's most likely when I'd get it anyways. I am going to be trading mine in by then anyways for something yet decided by then as I don't keep vehicles like this out of warranty and trading in when you still have a year or two left on the warranty always gives better trade value.

Does this mean that I'm old now that I don't care that the Cybertruck is faster than an R1? :CWL:

I would imagine the frame would be fine...it's all the other little bits taking the brundt of that torque which need to be revisited, both internal and external to the motors and drive units. Don't get me wrong, I would be more than happy to receive a 400hp OTA.

Is there any other manufacturer doing anything like that at this point? I’m not educated on battery technology as many of you are, but that seems like something new.

I just want to know if I should start preparing my “marvel of engineering” material for when it gets released :CWL:
GM is doing it on the Hummer EV / Ultium platform. They run everything at 400V, but charge at 800V.

Oh that’s right. I remember reading that. Thanks!

LFP batteries aren’t magic. Just cheaper, less degradation and can be charged to 100%. But lower energy density. I think the Tesla model 3 a Y standard range uses them.
Yeah, by "magic" I meant "magically not as bad in cold weather" which I believe is a flaw in current generation LFP. I really need decent cold weather range for winter adventures, so the current gen is a non-starter for me, personally.

Maybe. Lots of people don't need or use the current gen's horsepower. I think some of it depends on where you live. Round these parts there are plenty of places to open my truck up. If I lived where I used to in WI I probably wouldn't care as much either because the traffic was too dense and the streets too slow to use the speed much.

Does anyone think the improvements coming this summer will help cut down on vampire drain, having fewer ECUs and all?

I literally have almost zero vampire drain on my 2023 with ~23000 vin. Left outside in 40 degree weather over night and didnt lose 1 mile. I think there are other issues going on with some people and the drain.

Do you keep it plugged in? I haven't heard of anyone with zero drain.

I'm just giving you crap but agree, really depends on where you live. There's a dude that shipped his R1T to Germany and has apparently been hauling it out on the autobahn.
