Yeah same. 71.5 is the precipice between heaven and hell apparently. 71 = cold / 72 = heat. Regardless of outside temp, my mood, or position of celestial bodies.
My R1T works exactly the same.. it was 43F this afternoon, I set the "heat" at 70 and it blew cold air out the vents and the airflow icons were blue snowflakes. I then bumped it up to 72 and the icons instantly turned to red waves and heat came out the vents. The temp control adjustment is not a thermostat.. it's a switch which produces A/C when set below 72 and heat when set to 72 or higher regardless of outdoor temps. I can't believe it was designed to work this way completely ignoring outside temps.

So I got update 46 last week in week 50, so maybe in a month I'll get update 50? Not sure how this works, feels like someone should have installed by now, although if I receive the notification I'd wait a few weeks to install it based on recent history.

I also thought that during fall weather, it was blowing cold air at my feet even with the heat on and I believe I also had the 72' cliff. Maybe that was mostly on sunny days and sun was hitting a temperature sensor? It seems that ever since the weather turned cold, I can leave everything in auto and it will control to that temperature. I have set my temp to 68 now and it controls fine, same at 67 but I haven't tried any lower. I am now at peace with the system and like the fact that I can get warm air immediately compared to ICE vehicles 5 to 10 min wait. Still, the system is a bit quirky with not being able to direct the side vents. The motor control of center vents is unnecessary and they are generally in an awkward location (thanks to the large screen). I think they'd be better atop the screen. If the controls of BMW could be paired with the immediacy of the Rivian, it would be perfect. I love that small wheel BMW uses to fine tune only the temperature coming from the center vents. You can always find a comfortable temperature, even if the A/C or heat was on full blast. That would be a real upgrade and much more useful than the motorized vents.
Some cars have an infrared sensor that senses occupant body temperature and mix that signal with the cabin temperature to control the heater or A/C output in an effort to make the occupants more comfortable. Not sure if Rivian uses such system, but that could explain why the system works better when I am wearing heavier clothing. But it makes more sense that the hot/cold cliff is tied to the outside temperature. Anyway, Rivian needs to do a better job copying the control strategy and vents from an experienced luxury brand rather than winging it or inventing something new. It shouldn't be that hard and would greatly improve customer satisfaction.

Money definitely does not work this way. Mine works like one would think it should. I wonder if somehow what you are having is a software module issue or even some hardware failure.

Who knows.. a Rivian tech recently came out and connected his PC to my truck and dumped all sorts of logs. He uploaded the logs to corporate from my driveway... after analysis the verdict was "everything is 100% fine" ?‍♂

Recirculating fan is too loud and fan is constantly at 3 when 1 is just fine.

Mine frequently turns on recirculate when I have it set to fresh air. It shows fresh air, but wants to outsmart me and be clandestine about it. I can tell because the recirculating fan is louder than it should be.

But hey… only 5 more months until we get the weed whacker AC again. :)

Oh wait… there I go again. Still pumped about this update.

So good news! I commuted home with it set to auto at 68. Left a 64* garage, 35* outside. Drove for an hour with auto set to 68*. All comfortable and stayed the same temp all the way! Arrived at about 72* per a different thermometer.
They even seem to have fixed the vent symbols. Initially it showed blue snowflakes but I guess once the heater had booted up it switched over to red flames.

Is anyone else mashing the refresh button on the Vehicle Updates screen of the app hoping to get it?

I don’t expect to see it before 01/02, assuming that they have a lot of people on PTO between now and then.

I've had the same observation. It's not as quick to turn the heater on with lower set temperatures but it does eventually if the temperature goes too low. I suspect that the snowflake being present doesn't always mean it's intentionally cooling air being transfered into the cabin.

I still wish I could tell my truck to keep the cabin between say 65 and 75 and just never have to touch anything all year.

Erm, that note about time-of-use regarding this feature worries me. Is this automatic or optional? I don't really want to wake up at 5-something-am to unplug just in case it decides to maintain during peak hours

That's a $90 mistake for me if it decides to charge outside of my schedule...

I hope this is only part of the "scheduled drive" functionally that I don't need to use, currently.
$90?? How expensive is your electricity?

Demand charge

They measure the highest rate of delivery for the month for (15 min?) Increments during peak hours and charge you $10 per kWh

So, since I charge at 9 kWh, that's a $90 demand fee if the charger kicks on

The upside is that it's disgustingly cheap at night

Did you give it a chance to change from snowflakes to heat? Mine takes a minute or so and will eventually switch.
