Additional Improvements
  • Improved vehicle maneuverability at low speeds.
I've only had my R1T for a short while but reverse out of the driveway was jerky and hard to get smooth. Thought it was just me learning the vehicle.

This is incredible news! People repeatedly said that Rivian doesn’t have the capability to utilize blended braking - that never made sense to me. We can now see that blended braking is indeed available. Perhaps we’ll have the option to turn off regen in the future!

Nothing that hasn't been said already, just a solid update.

Scheduled charge and Blended braking:
You had to know that the scheduled departure was coming for this time of year with road trips and cold temps, but the blending braking is just the cherry on top.

Wipers:
For those that mentioned the wipers, if you have a situation where it is misting and you just need the wipers to wipe once, just blip the washer button on the end of the stalk and it will wipe once. This update looks to be more of a "oh shit, I need max wipers now, can't wait for the computer to decide to go to max and need it to stay there" or "I wish the wipers were more/less sensitive." Can we give a shout out to Rivian for implementing the wiper sensitivity on the stalk instead of the way Tesla does? My friends love their teslas... except for the way they have to dig into the menus to get the sensitivity changed.

Wish they would add a selection on the headlight menu like the wipers that will allow fog lights with auto low beams

Nice Christmas present from Rivian!

And this - blended braking. We knew that the Bosch system Rivian uses had this capability (in theory) - finally!

Regenerative Brake Assist
The new Regenerative Brake Assist feature improved deceleration performance in cold climates, on long downhills, and in vehicle high states of charge by blending more consistently and seamlessly with standard braking. To disable this feature, go to Settings > Driver+ > Regen Brake Assist.
This is blending on the throttle pedal and not the brake pedal right?

Great update. Literally filled out the survey yesterday for my R1S and had 2 of these things on it that I wanted to improve.

Yes, these updates are welcome, but please, please, please improve vampire drain. Mine isn't as bad as others, but still pretty egregious for a company that is supposed to be ecoconscious to burn 2+kWH / day with the vehicle sitting in a garage that hasn't dropped below 55 degrees for days on end.

Correction ... the lowest temp my garage has been in the past month has been 64.6 degrees!

What, actually, is blended braking? To me, this just means the truck won't limit regen as often when I am coming down a hill or mountain or when the vehicle is cold.

Blended Braking and the Improved Auto-Hold for snow mode are huge for me.

I'm driving up over mountains very frequently (Tahoe) and run into the re-gen limited all the time. It's worse now that it's trying to be winter. It makes the driving dynamics hard to predict. I expect this to be a very nice quality of life improvement.

And my driveway is on a slope towards the garage doors, and it's currently covered in snow. So auto-hold gets used a lot if I'm parking in the driveway for whatever reason.

Nice update! Looking forward to getting it. Glad they working all these winter features in right about when they are needed.

Now, I hope they will add an auto-on for heated seats and steering when it's cold.

Not that I'm in a rush to install a software update <24 hours before a 900 mile road trip starting tomorrow.... but this would have been really handy for me. Still very excited and continually impressed with the consistent OTA updates.
wishful thinking that the update would release publicly so fast. It would be lucky if we got it before end of year

I think that's what it meant... I experienced the same.

Yeah, will be interesting to see if it is proactive about blending the braking to prevent having to limit regen, or if it just starts blending once it gets to limited regen. Either way, if one pedal is a lot more consistent, I'm going to be happy.

There are a variety of circumstances when the quantity of regen is limited on an electric car due to a number of factors—inverter temperature, state of charge, etc. Because one-pedal driving utilizes a single-pedal, it's often disorienting for a deceleration rate to be different from what is "typical" in circumstances where regen is limited; particularly, in the case of Rivian where I think their sustained regen performance is not very good (per your question, this OTA doesn't suggest that regen behavior itself has changed at all). When coming down a mountain, you may have noticed the vehicle suddenly lurch forward because the amount of regen has decreased. Not ideal.

Brake blending quite literally applies friction brakes to simulate the same regen band regardless of actual regen that's occuring. This comes at the expense of range applying friction brakes will always be worse than coasting when deceleration is not required (thanks for making this an option that can be disabled, Rivian!!!), but I think most will find brake blending provides a more consistent experience across the board. I also agree it should be the default behavior for most drivers.

This will be a tough one. They did improved mine about 4 or 5 updates ago. I went from 2% lost a day to barely anything. Vehicle is in deep sleep mode most of the time now.

Seriously, though... What could this really mean? It's not like they can add 4-wheel steering OTA...
I noticed if I have the R1S in highest and have steering at full lock, it almost feels like something is binding up like a real 4WD vehicle does. My R1T doesn't quite have that same sensation. Could be something with that.

More even throttle will definitely be welcome in reverse. FWIW it seems to be more prevalent in Conserve than AP.
