Too bad they chose a place with near-perfect weather year round. Indoor charging would be even more of a perk in places that regularly see >100+ temps. Or <0 temps.

Even with "monitoring and security", how will they prevent this location from getting trashed or overrun by homeless people?

Edit : posted the same question on Reddit, and the comment was summarily deleted by the Reddit mods (most of whom are on here as well). I guess we'll just have to revisit this once it gets running and is on Plugshare to see real customer feedback. Believe me, I want more locations like this, but securing will be costly.

Lived not far from Fisherman's Warf during '99~'04. Can confirm. You get your shit smashed even while parked in private "secure" parking.

I found the location choice for their first flagship charging lounge to be odd.

Why SF? So many people in SF live without a vehicle. They live and work in the city and have little to no need for a car, let alone an EV without ability to charge at their flat/apartment/condo. Perhaps if you live in Sea Cliff or down the peninsula, but then you don't need to charge at EA.

A better place to showcase would have been in SoCal where one out of every 3 cars are EV/PHEV, and lots of every kind of vehicles. Maybe Westwood/Santa Monica where there are lots of EVs and apartments without charging stalls - AND there is a need for vehicle ownership, unlike SF.

As a side note, this is one of the reasons why Tesla chose Santa Monica to build their drive-in, cafe supercharger station.

They opened a bank of the newest chargers around the corner from my house a week ago - all rated at 350 kW.

A glance at PlugShare shows no one has gotten above 131 kW yet (that was an ID.4).

Doesn't bode well for their FLAGSHIP location...

Kinda looks like the inside of the Rivian service centers.

The concept is cool, but it's lacking. Besides the bathroom, and supposed safety from crooks possibly breaking into things, does this really need to be brick and mortar? Not to say it should be more like a convenience store, but yeah, maybe a little something more than vending machines?

Just a big building for things that don't need a building? Maybe I'm just not getting it. I could see enclosed and access controlled chargers, then go and shop nearby for 30 min, but then you just don't need the waiting room.

People sit in their cars anyway. What a waste of investment dollars. They should use the money to make sure there’s not at least one broken stall in all their stations…. If would be money much better spent.
